Just came across The Motor Oil Gerk Lake Speed Jr on YouTube. If you want to know anything about Oil, this is your guy. I have been using Mobil1 0W-40 European Car blend SP in my Apex. Viper and SRX and by what I have learned from Lake's info, this is the stuff to use.

I have a 2005 Saturn Vue with a 2.2L eco-tech motor in it that I use for going back and forth to work = 65 miles one way. It has 314,870 miles on it now and I use the Valvoline restore as well based on what he says -- "Application drives formulation".
For how the eco-tech works and its mileage, the Valvoline is the best of the bunch. This little thing runs better than most vehicles and just keeps on going.

Back in 2006 we worked with Lake Speed Jr (back then he worked for Joe Gibbs Racing Oil) on what oil was best for our Yamaha 4-stroke motors for strictly drag racing applications. Lake studied our application and clearances in the motor and gave us straight 0 weight oil. It was worth 5-6 horsepower just by changing from Yamalube 0W40 synthetic to the straight 0 weight synthetic. He definitely knows his stuff and has worked in the oil & motorsports industry for a long time!

He did say that application dictates formulation and that racing oils are going to be formulated much differently than every day oils due to the length of service life and shear stress the two applications have. For our "everyday" use in sleds I believe the 0W40 Mobile1 full synthetic SP European Car (higher zinc load) oil is the way to go. I have used it in my Apex, Nytro, Viper and now Winder and have had no lubrication related issues over the combined 25K miles on those sleds. I did find out also that the Yamaha filter is made by Wix so I have used Wix filters on all these sleds which is WAY cheaper than buying a Yamaha filter and they should not void any warranty as they are the same.
