I have heard you mention while talking about the RA and M-10, upgrading the springs in the M-10 for heavier guys to prevent bottoming. I'm pushing 290, and with all the adjustablity of the M-10 are the standard springs going be enough. I know they rate them up to that weight but was wondering what you thought. FYI, the shocks are Fox zero Comp. Doesn't sound like they are adjustable.

If I were to upgrade the springs which ones would I do?

What about upgrading the rear shock only to a Ohlin?

Also have you used the Cam-it before ? What;s your opinion on the Jack vs. the Cam-it? meaning cost / conveinance.

Also in th "bolt and go" RX-1 install, do you have to cut the Yamaha spacers on the front shaft to fit in the stock mount brackets yourself or did they come that way? The unverisal directions mentions nothing about this.

Also when you installed the rear brackets on the rear shaft first, doesn't that make installing the skid very difficult cuz you have to lift the track over the brackets..etc.etc.

Hey Docster,

I am an M-10 convert thanks to Mr. Sled. I tip the scales at about 300, and I put one(Ohlins rear) on my 03 RX-1. I am still using the stock spring and it works great, although I am on my last adjustment.

The thing rides like a dream and the faster you go on the bumps, the better it gets.
 
Thanks Sidewinder. When you say you are using the "stock" spring you mean the spring that came with the M-10 using the fox Shocks? So I can purchase an Ohlins rear shock and install the spring from the rear Fox Zero Comp shock that comes with skid new? I'll have to look into that. Where did you purchase that rear shock? and if you don't mind my asking what di you pay I think the prices on the FAST site give it as a set. ??? I think...I'll have to double check...From you big guy to another...any help is appreciate sidewinder thanks.
 
I rode the piss out of that M10 on my 03 RX1 and you can get the stock spring to work but I went up to the full rate balck spring and it made the world of difference to me...The ohlins will just make the adjustablility on long day riding consistent.

In response to your question, I bought my M-10 with the Ohlins shock, and I can't remember what I paid honestly, since it took me about two rides on my "no action" to know I needed a change.

I would go with Mr. Sled's suggestion on the spring. He weighs a bit less than us, but he is all about "tweeking" suspensions. I once spent a day riding with him and he spent half of it on his back under the sled trying to get it to ride right (it wasn't an M-10) ;-)

OK, I've had a M10 since last Feb. I've wrenched and wrenched. This season I stretched it to a 136. Still could not get it tuned in. The junk Fox shock was shot, so I bought the Ohlins and the heavier rear shock. I am only 230lbs. Well at first I thought I was ripped off again, rode very stiff. I gave it absolute h e l l for 450+ miles this last weekend. It got better and better. Its not there yet, but its close. So the new heavier shock will take a least 500 miles to break in. I am almost finally happy.
 
The shocks should be rebuilt every year and recharged. If you put on a lot of miles then you could have they done twice a year. On average I will put on about 5000 mile a year and I will have my shocks rebuilt twice. If the guy knows what he is doing he will set the shocke up for your weight by changing the insides of the stock so it rides good for you
