I just don't understand your obsession with being louder. I put on a supposed "trail" exhaust on my apex last winter and absolutely hated it-way way too loud. I put the stocker back on and threw the hauck exhaust under the bench. I belong to a club up here in Ontario and am constantly rerouting trails because of loud exhaust, bad trail manners, etc. We all have to promote responsible snowmobiling if we want to continue our sport.

I bet a lot of "NEWBIE's" have ridden sleds or Yamaha for as long as you have.......
Maybe they just found TY or didn't feel like creating an account until lately. But to call someone a NEWBIE is disrespectful.
But about the subject being posted about -- in MN loud pipes close trails also.
But 4 strokes in general are soooo much more quiet than 2 smokes that even this "swiss cheese" mod done probably keep the Apex more quiet than 2 strokes. BUT I wouldn't do this b/c as KnappAttack says, I bet it decreases HP, so why do it?????

MountainMax-I did not try to offend you. I'll try not to hijack this thread, but i have been snowmobiling now for over 30 years and have owmed sleds from all four of the big manufacturers. I have had my apex now for 2 years and i love it. However, where i live near Ottawa, Ontario i personally maintain a portion of trail in our club, so i know how hard it is to try and reroute trails when somebody does not stay on the trail or chooses to use loud pipes.

MoutainMax it sounds cool to me, I could live with it. Back in 97 I had a
set of stingers on my ZRT600 it was so loud after about an hour of it I
would want to drive the thing it to a tree.lol But your Yam sounds cool,
It's not that loud.

Another dip that just does not give a crap that his actions cause non sledders to group together and use the noise he is making as a reason to close land. Like another poster said above.. some people just dont get it.. and most likely never will.
Sorry guys, this is the 'newbie' I was referring to, but you posted while I was writing mine.......

MountainMax, it’s all good they don’t know where you ride. Your sled
looks awesome and sounds
awesome!! Down here in the states we have to be careful we do a lot of
trail riding so we are all trained
too keep the noise level down, but up in your area there is a lot more
freedom. I say have fun with it!
Keep the faith,

I have just under 300km to the east and west of me, and over 1000km north and south of me before I run into another community, so yeah, im in a great spot and lots of wide open spaces to ride, and my apex is not nearly as loud as my Mountain Max, 800 tripple big bore kit with tripple bender pipes and no mufflers, just three peices of 1" conduit going out through the bottom, or my 1980 SRX440 with AAen race pipes going out the side with just stingers, no mufflers, now they are loud. hehe

unfortunatly the noise subject is a tough one. i myself always like a sled that barks. i rode my zr for 3 yrs with pipes on it. i always tried to keep quiet around houses at night. people would tell me they heard me but didnt really complain cause i was trying to be quiet and respectful. i have also had problems, like a A-hole neighbors buddy that thought it was so cool to pin the flipper to the bar on his xcr 600 triple with pipes every small straight away he cound at 2am around the houses on a weeknight. (im talkin past my bedroom as well) well his stupid actions made me shut their trail down. also here in new york the police and dec have been cracking down on exhaust noise so bad, that i have even heard of a guy on a rx1 getting a ticket with a 100% stock system. it got dropped in court, but still a hassle to deal with. i have a yoshi that ive been dying to put on my apex. but i just dont want the BS of getting a ticket.
