I hear you, explained like this is fine, I just hate it when people open their mouth and stay stupid things. I am similar with my motorbike, I ride slow and quiet round town and only bar it when im away from everyone as not to piss them off

I personally don't like the loud noise anymore, on anything. That includes all the Harley's that cruise around with open pipes. That's probably my age talking. Why anyone would want to hear a loud exhaust all day for 300-400 miles is beyond me. Now, that being said, if someone like MMax has an area like he does, big deal. If he wants to go deaf, that's his choice. No big deal. The bad ones are the ones we call the weekend warriors. They come up to Old Forge or Tug Hill or St. Zenon from say NYC or Montreal on Friday night and act like they are real snowmobilers. They unload and ride to the nearest bar,get absolutely hammered, then get on their piped big bores and race up and down the streets at 2:00 in the morning. Usually, the ambulance siren starts going off right after. These are the idiots that need to be banned from riding. There should be a rule that all sleds should be inspected before any permits are sold. I am not bashing anyone who rides on private land. I am only bashing the ones who insist on breaking the laws by riding with loud pipes in areas where they are illegal.

Actually my ears are still Very, Very good, wearing a helmet muffles the noise enough so it won't damage anything, and the apex shoots all the sound backwards anyhow, and when I race my SRX I wear ear plugs under the helmet, and that is on Race Tracks only.

By the way, the going deaf comment was a joke. Some day, if they ever groom the North Shore to Labrador, I would love to get there to ride.

I did the same thing to mine last year. Sounded great at first but it drones real bad around 5,000 to 6,000 rpm could'nt handle it anymore. So I wrapped the tubes with some light gauge stainless held them in place with hose clamps and welded where i could, then removed the hose clamps, sounds very close to stock again.
Can someone tell me what he means by "it drones real bad around 5,000 to 6,000 rpm's? and can you put up a new video so I can I hear it? Or email me the video because when I went to the link on YouTube it says no longer available. Thanks

Each of the tubes that were drilled out have glass packing in them for sound deading. My sled had work done inside but I don't know what was done for sure, I bought the sled that way. It is not alot loader than stock but it does make more power.
If I was to guess what was cut. I would say the cross over tube at the front and at the back of muffler was cut out and the ends of each exiting pipe where it is smaller at the entrance were cut off.

i cut out crosspipes when i got my apex -- along time ago!! welded er back up, was happy with the no cost sound at first , but as time went on it just didnt sound good, louder ya but good no, so i put full excell exhaust on it and done, its perfect!! ya cost is higher but if u plannin on keepin it it worth it, even if selkin it in few years it still worth it imo!!

NP Darren...I don't know how it is in Canada, but here in Michigan and all across the US snow states we are losing trails and land leases to loud sleds. The apex is a great sled and has a great sound stock. Bottom line....The muffler mod does nothing but hurt performance and close trails.

Im from northwestern ontario where the closest city is 4 hours east and west....nothing but bush north for thousands of kms and 2 hours south to the border. 95% of land is crown so no concerns period. Here there are no restrictions nor emissions. So we do what ever the hell we want. This conversation started as a technical question and turned into a philisofical one.
Id put on a loud aftermarket but im gettin old and the bleeding ears dont apeal to me anymore. I want to hear a gutted muffler vid to see if the sound level falls somewhere between the loud and the quiet. Its a shame to keep this beautifull monster stock /quiet when its the closest thing to ear porn you will find.
