What was the highest speed you recorded on your '06 MachZ?
:ORC
hey there,
i see where this is going and I have no problem saying my mach was faster and quicker,it was well setup with dalton clutching and domes and pipe mod...that being said,i ran a 120.9 on a DIFFERENT day with DIFFERENT lenght(3000+) and also, that day all other machs ran 117-121 or so...
yesterday ALL MACHS ran approx 114 to 117 for best ,in the RT chassis...and a renegade only would go 108.2 period.
I still love alot about the machs, they do certain things very well, and WE all know what they can do when tuned right...I still am super happy with my decision to go into a 4 stroker,i honestly didnt think i could be this close to a mach in speed, with such little effort, ive only had the sled about 3 weeks and only one weekend to test it on ice so far.So all in all the season turned out great.
thanks to Daryl an ED once again, they are die hard DOO guys as was I for 25+ yrs..,to me its more about making them ALL GO,not that a yammie is faster then a doo or visa versa, the guys out there with there clutches all apart sunday are just like me,tuners....I might not know all there is to know, but test and tune is name of the game and DOO ,poo, yammie or cat,we all like to tune..Stones F9 ran some awesome numbers and got 121+ on the gun....hes a great guy to hang with on the track..we all had a great time reguardless of the internet rhetoric that goes on with brand loyaltys....being a sledhead is enough for me.
dan
Thanks for the mention on my f-9 I had a great time meeting everyone even though the wind almost blew me off the track everytime and literally did a few times LOL The main reason for coming was to see how the apex would face off against the mach's and I came away very impressed, 1 more season of tuning and aftermarket parts and it will be a toss-up I was so impressed that I think I may be buying 1 next year (sure you don't want to sell your's Dan) the sound of those sleds are just awesome. p.s. I had to change my name on here as there is already a stone registerd on this site.

Hey Stone and Louman...great to have you guys here...
I honestly think the mach z section of dootalk is eventually all gonna be over here, the more the better i say...
Stones F9 is a fast ride for sure...there werent too many kittys there so he made for a good showing for green guys...I think you will love an apex for overal riding and performance is respectable..
the smooth motors definitely grab your attention and then you want one!..LOL.
I think there is more to be had for sure for next season,i guess 2-3 more mph will put them right even with most all machs, which for 150hp 4 stroker aint so bad eh?..
This sled has put the fun back in sleddig for me personally....Matt gave me the bug when his mighty mach quit and got his rtx, then it was my turn...jumping ship was alot easier then i thought...i was freaking out cause everything i own says SKIDOO on it..LOL,so for me this was a huge thing...but wow, happy as can be
see ya all hopefully alot more next season on mary lake, more testing for next year, and eventually forced induction on this motor will be a RIOT!

I have to say I was quite impressed to see how close you came to a good running Mach - my Buddy Bob - who had to carry the load for me as I was unable to come. While many were close to the Mach and some equal I think that may be the difference between tuners and or set up from the dealership which we all know can be brutal for ALL brands.
I have had a chance to ride the Apex and was impressed with it and while it is something I may consider one day I still think it needs more top end for me. If I heard even one bit of encouraging news about a SC or turbo for trail set up then I might be more inclined to look at that route but to this day I have yet to hear of anything trailable and dependable at the same time.
Legend - you are a legend.............in your own mind.................and now here....................lol. Is that the best you could tune your Apex too??? 4,5,6 good thing I never came up or we would been breaking out the Crown for a victory drink...........lol.
Maybe I will get a chance to come out this weekend if it is still on we will see. I know Bobs sled is working good now and if he would not be so lazy to change things he may have taken some stuff and got more out of his as I am sure with more rpms - ala87gt - he would have gone a bit faster. And he should not let his son ride it that fast yet either just my opinnion there.

Check with John at Proline he has been running a SC all winter long on the trail with pump gas. Willbe doing it again next winter.

Am I correct to think you use to be a Firecat guy?????
I know of those who trial ride their SC but not with any miles of significance to mean anything for dependability or relibility. The ones I hear of that have worked have to be run on lower boost and/or race fuel and even then most have had lots of problems including several with completly lunched motors. Once a guy has 3-4000 miles with several 200 mile day rides then I will look into it other wise it still is unproven for "upnord" riding style. When it is proven I will be first in line.

Puddy you should contact sledheadgeorge with his turbo on RX1. He has thousands of miles on trails and zero problems. His is the Swedish Turbo.

Right you are besides about every other sled ever made. I never had brand loyality.Always got what I liked best at the time. On turbos and Super Chargers they seemed to work better on the carbed models. I,m sure if you contact Mike Knapp who had a turbo and John Wheelock who had a SC both on attaks -06s this winter they will tell you there findings. Good or bad. I know John ran 89 octane on his SC. Hope this helps. byoffcr

I've got over 8,000 mile on my MCX rear mount. No problems with the motor at 10lbs boost. I have taken it on long tours with over 200 mile days. Only problem I have ever had is with clamps and getting the power to the ice. This is primarily due to the design of the intercooler. I got one of the first rear mount kits here in Ontario and the Intercooler angle to the carbs is slightlly off. So I have to make sure that I install new clamps every year. I have seen the new kits on other sleds with the same setup and MCX has corrected the angle. I also have a boost switch installed at 12lbs boost. No problems there either. I've also run it at 15to 16 lbs boost with mixed fuel with no problems as well. As far as "upnord riding" I will not run any other sled. For big trails you need a big ride. Besides once you ride a sled with over 200 hp you can't ride anything else.

i was leaning towards the MPI SC for myself either next season or the following...does anyone have any input as to longevity of these,I would most likely just run at at low boost of 5-7lbs and keep it trailable...I dont really want to get into race fuel..
I think these motors are far stout enough for low boost and longevity...but it will be nice to seee more and more guys running up some miles on these setups.

hey Stan,
No doubt the machs still pull their own weight so to speak..we had a decent day,but we really need a perfect day still with right breeze and ICe.....next time you better come on out and run with us..I wont be here this weekend on mary lake but the lake still looks same and calling for cool enough,so daryl and ed might be out,but if you have your own gun the track is there!..
Ill talk to ya more next season for sure..hopefully do a few more tweaks for next seaon, and wait and see if guys are happy with their SC's...before i decide what to do...
I will probably just be messing around with my bud MATTS RTX,as he should be setting up for turbo, which will be nice to see how his goes...we already installed a 136 track and skid so hes gonna make her rip im sure...
Im liking the new game of 4 stroke, not too mention i piled on a ton of miles in the 3 weekends i rode my RTX,more then i did on the mach all season, and not one hint of an issue...so i was happy, just hold to bar.Belt looks new still..its great to have cold clutches too...after being on DOO for 25 yrs, seeing these types things with yammiies are great.

puddytatman if I had as much time as you do on the phone, internet and on the Holland river with your Mach mine would be just as fast. Do you remember that mine is 150horsepower, yours is supposedly 170 with 144 13.75 studs, every possible clutch part and geared. If I did that I'd be just beside you if not ahead. Mine has 4000 miles with 1.25track, worn out studs and still ran 113. Maybe next year you'll be having a crown royal with me. Don't bring me into the BS because I don't really care!! It is reliable and I can take it out every weekend without a worry. Next year I will have same sled with 8000miles and still running.
