My first ride on a 2011 apex and nytro xtx impressions.

Yes, there are some "tweaking" issues of getting the sled where you want it. I think Yamaha builds a lot of adjustability in our sleds for that reason. Bottom line is this. In my area there is a bunch of dealers that sell all brands and every mechanic that I know rides the YAMAHA. The motors, fit and finish, and overall reliabiblity!

True. And If I go with a nytro now I have to make a decision on what model. I like how snappy and quick the shorty was but the xtx might be calling my name fir the ditches and boondocking the powerlines

The XTX makes a great trail sled as well as off trail. I would say it is the best all-around model of the Nytro. Rides and handles great overall. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to you.

Perfect. That's the one I was looking intothe most. But just didn't know how hat 144 does on the hard packed trails

FWIW, this is my wife's sled. She is 5'4" and weighs 150lbs. She has no problem with it on the trails and in the woods. She prefers it over any of the other 4 stroke Yammis she has owned (her last sled was a 2009 Vector LTX and then a 2007 Phazer FX before that). And she rides better and faster than most men I know. A set of pilot skis and setting the front shocks and springs to minimum stiffness is all it took to get it to handle and ride right. We never touched the rear suspension, it is set to factory. I have ridden it a couple times and prefer it to my '10 Apex LTX overall.

What kind of top end can one expect from the Nytro XTX?

stocker 103-105 +/- speedo.... Modded 112-116 +/- speedo... There are rare circumstances that some people have gotten big numbers on a stock XTX and Darenello is the only one that I have seen. The speedos are off by 4-5mph.

I ride an 03 Rx1 ton, yeah everyone bashes on the weight of these sleds. I'm semi new to suspension adjusting but last winter i couldn't keep up with anybody on the trails. It was tippy darted so bad it would almost pitch me off the side. So this summer with the help of this website I shimmed the skies, changed carbides, reduced preload on the front shocks, bumped up the preload slightly in the back, loosened the limiter straps and adjusted the transfer rods for more transfer. It was a lot of tweaking but the difference is night and day. My point being to the people bashing these sleds out of the box..it's not like you can't fix these minor problems..for the fuel economy, no 2 smoke, and the engine life i'll stick with the 4 strokes. Now i just gotta do the apex seat and bar risers.

The one thing that all yamaha sleds are missing... GOOD SKIS..

Once you switch to a skidoo pilot ski.. THe sled is twice the sled it was.. Thats why its tippy.. thats why it darts..

Yamaha skis are pure junk.. End of arguement..

I'm not disputing that Yamaha skis are inferior to most aftermarket ones. I prefer Simmons to BRP products.

But set up is a huge part of the equation. Those sleds were not set up well for icy, twisty, bumpy trials with 4 inches of slop on top last Saturday.........

Those sleds would have still rode crappy even with either Pilots or Simmons.

Speaking of reliability in yammy 4 strokes. What happened to your wires vector.?

I don't know why. But the yamaha salesman said that the best skis for the nytro are by Simmons or ski doos 6.9 ( at least I think it was 6.9 )

Kinda odd he's referring other brands skis. But at least he's being honest and nit trying to just sell me something. That may have just earned him all my future business.

They were very bumpy and a little twisty but when you say slop, I thought ofthat as slush. There was actually a little layer of powder when we rode and when we stopped and switched sleds the trail itself was pretty soft. Not hardpacked but not bad either. I've seen alot worse this season. But yea. The bumps and craters on that trail were ridiculous. If I was on my 97 max I would have probably broken my back.
