I now have 477 miles on my 06 Apex GT ans 370 on my wifes 07ER. Here is what I have found.
1. Motor is downright intoxicating. I don't know how you could improve on this engine for trail riding.
2. Traction is indeed limited. I have 144 down the middle. Not anough.
3. 07 handlebar update doesn't do much. It seems to be a combination of low supply transformer voltage, and lots of air getting to your hands. Gauntlets or mittens make the grips feel much warmer.
4. The Pioneer Performance rear shock re-valve is money well spent. Never bottom at all. Rides very good, with a hint of firmness.
5. This sled carries a lot of ice buildup in the skid. Is there any spray on stuff anyone is using to allow the ice to sublime better?
6. SLP wearpads are money well spent. No hyfax wear yet.
7. I'm running 3/4 inch of track sag with no ratcheting issues at all (on normal snow covered trails).
8. Handlebars point to the right on the 06GT. I'll need to fix this.
9. I loosened the front spring preload until the springs are loose in the collars while the front of the machine is elevated. Normal limiter sprap and tranfer settings. I now need to come up a hole on the strap, and set less transfer. The sled pushes a bit. No tippyness though.
10. 8" Bergstrom carbides with ski savers and shims work well for a stock ski setup. Very minimal darting. They carve well as long as I'm decellerating. (Transfer and ski presure problem).
11. Clutching is great out of the box.
12. Motor is intoxicating. This sled is too easy to cover a lot of real estate fast. This sled was built for the groomed trail.
For what its worth, I broke it in using the Motoman method, as close as I could anyway, and it runs real good. Gets 17 MPG and turns 10900 all day. But then again, my wifes ER was broken in by the book and seem to run strong also. I think its hard to go wrong either way. This by far is the best set of sleds I have ever owned. I look forward to tinkering a little!

you guys want something that works? try plain old PAM coking spray. i use it on snow shovel to keep the ice from building up on it. also works well when i clean up the dog sh** in the dog pen. and it is a plain steel shovel guys with no paint and rust.

I use pam as well and it helps. Old dirt bike trick to keep the mud off.

I hot water spray mine after most rides, then into the shop.....hate the extra weight of ice..
also,my rear heat exchanger keeps LESS ice near rear where it used to buildup alot.
