Well I have been a long time RX fan and didn't want a apex really because I already had it in a sense with the mods on my RX1 (apex front suspension, apex seat, etc etc) it was a apex with a hood!
I picked up a good deal on a 06 GT with a MPI supercharger on it and have been fiddling with it. No ride time yet but I am not expecting things to be much different then my RX1 other then the mono.
First thing I thought I would hate was no hood! Actually I sort of like it, the panels are easy to remove the DZUS fasteners seem to work ok, and over all you have better access then with the RX1, just not something I will be taking off trailside to show off the SC though.
I think its idiotic to have that cover with 4 allen head screws to remove plus un fasten the ignition and 12V power source, and possibly remove the head light assembly just to check the coolant. I have had coolant issues in the past and I realize yamaha knows thier stuff is bullet proof but this is something I'm hoping wont be happening to me trail side! especially with the SC if I blow a head gasket or something where I need to limp back home and run a ton of coolant to keep it cool, this will be a PITA. Never supposed to happen but geez most dont build it into the sled like that.
I do like that the panels are seperated around the steering column, this will make removing the gas tank for exhaust repairs much simpler then my RX1 where you MUST remove the handlebars, brake line and all to remove the gas tank.
I LOVE the instrument cluster compared to the RX
I love the flip key for the ignition!
I like the tailight better then the RX
The bar wiring is MUCH nicer and more condusive to me putting a adjustable height risor on there so I can convert from trail to ditch easily. I was looking at a major job to convert the RX.
Fuel Injection of course rocks.
I like the sound of my RX vs the apex better at idle. My RX always sounds badazz with a deep growl. The apex is more tinny
I'm not impressed with the ability to be able to keep a mint condition hood and panels mint for very long, with the DZUS fasteners hanging down you have to be very careful when assembling parts vs my hood on the RX was 100% mint and would always stay that way from normal maintenance.
Overall I like it but it will take some trail time to see if I like it better then my RX which I knew inside and out and had it set up perfectly for me.
Sorry if this isn't new info to most of you but I looked for a post like this when I was getting ready to buy it and didn't see it so I thought I would post for the people like me that are now able to afford apex's LOL

i dont understand why you remove handlebars, brakeline and all, to remove the gas tank from the rx1. i just remove the tank cover and lift it and slide tank out. maybe someday ill own an apex, but i sure like opening a hood and having access to everything without removing anything.

Also why do I care about the Barometric pressure display??
Grader - good idea on the tank idea, I have the isovibe risor installed and it wouldn't let the tank cover up high enough to clear so it had to come off.
Also is there a proper way to pull the panel out with the key switch and 12V power socket do you remove the head light first? seems like it always binds up somehow and if I go with custom paint hate to scratch it on aseembly. Thanks!

You will get used to the Apex panels, it's kinda akward at first until you get familiar with how to remove and install them, then it's a piece of cake.
