My Phazer Burnt to a pile of ashes this weekend

There is the one that wraps around which has the fibre in it and the sheet that lays over the subframe under the tank.

I finally got around to fixing my sled and was surprised to see how little damage all that smoke made. I posted earlier about a stick getting up under my key and bending it causing the ignition key switch to hang up. When I rode off after the key stopped me I am guessing my starter stayed in the crank mode. All the wires in the bottom of the starter for the brushes melted, some of the windings on the armature came loose and finally jammed up the starter from spinning any further and I think that causes a direct short when the Key is on. A few times after I had the sled home I turned the key to the run position and I could start to smell it again so I believe my starter in it's damaged condition was a direct short with key on.

Brent, pull your starter off and inspect it. Check to see if the armature windings are intact and check the brush wires.

No other wires were burnt on my sled. The boot that covers the terminal on the starter was a little stiff but I managed to get it off without damaging it

had to pull the front end off to get to starter, did the oil filter while I was here.

phazer on fire

hey guys i to had a small fire this weekend. i just bought a 2007 phazer gt and it is bone stock. it has 3200 miles on it. saturday i went for a ride to town with some friends the temp was about 32 degrees out . my sled was running a little warm but i only rode it about 2 miles. i hit some ice and it flipped on its side right leg side and trapped my foot under it. the sled was on it side maybe 30-45 seconds. i did manage to hit the kill switch when it tipped. my friends ran over and flipped it to its skies about 10 seconds after it was on its skies it went poof and flames were shooting out of the left side.i ripped off the side cover and good thing a rider had some water to put the fire out. it only burnt the wire going to the dash pod. i guess i am lucky buy i will put fire insurance on it. i will post pics later tonight .

Anyone that had there yamaha phazer burn like this plz contact me mine burnt the same and i am dealing with yamaha and need as much firing power as possible and there is a posablity that you could get yamaha to help you as well the problem is the carbs leak from the carbboots but help me out guys contact me my email is biker_joe89@hotmail.com or my cell number is (906) 370-4611

Uhm we have fuel injection. No carbs.A leaky intake boot should give a very high idle because of lean condition.Never heard of it happening but if a boot was leaking you should know it before a fire happend.

yea there was loss of power but that was the only sign and you dont just think oh i bet my carb boots are leaking you think i wonder if mabey its overheating the only way I would have thought mabey my carb boots leaking is is after my sled burnt and i started looking in to why they burnup.

I still dont see how it could cause a fire.Any fuel going by is going to be sucked into the motor not out the boots.

well all i know is if yours starts to run poor or starts to lose power shut that thing off immediately or it will become some pictures on this thread and you will be in the same boat as the rest of us. here are pics of mine I will be posting better ones later along with pics of while it was burning

Insane.......

I am truly very concerned and sorry for everyones losses

This has to be resolved, totally unacceptable for these things to burn to the ground, plus we got a 07 phazer!!, shiiiit son!

anyone who has had a phazer fire problem or is concerned about it yamaha's number is 1800-962-7926 the ext to the woman you should talk to is 7612

Left side is where the fueltank vent lines go to.It is supposed to go to the ground but I could see how when its on its side it could go into the sled if enough came out.Spark could cause a issue.Almost all sleds are setup like this though. The loops the line makes are supposed to hold gas in the lines till sled is upright again.I dont see why they couldnt route the ventline to a canister like a car but if I were you guys I would take a look at the lines.Possibly it came off,was rerouted wrong or the end came out of the tunnel brace.Another possibility is tank was full past the white insert and no air pocket was in tank to allow vent to work right.

Man sorry for your loses guys, i was really thinking of getting one for my boys I know they would love the new phaser and when i first started to read this thread i too was thinking that the turbo's caused the issue but not anymore.
