Hey I decided to come on this site and ask guys who have owned or rode yamaha machines instead of asking a dealer because the best model is the one on there lot.
I'm looking to buy a new Yamaha 4 stroke. My max spending amount it 7500 that will be inc tax.
I live in southwestern Ontario, had a 03 rx1 that i bought in march 2011 and only rode 8 hours because we had no snow last winter. the shocks went form sitting so was going to invest 1500 into new rear skid and things to make it handle better but realized i would rather sell it and take the cash and get a newer machine. I live on a farm and I have to drive my sled alone always at night 26km in ditches and on the side of roads just to get to the trails to meet up with buddies, plus riding around the farm. So I dont need the fafor top speed its near impossible for me to open it over 120km around hear but i do go up north every second or 3rd weekend.
my style of riding
I have to be warm and comfortable on the machine, but on the other hand I own a crotch rocket that i ride hard so I will be riding my sled the same way fast in and out of corners.
and why I'm asking for help is because there are so many models and options on those models in my price range I don't want to buy a machine i hate or know if i spent 500 more i would have a even better machine. So anyone with input on any machines from 2006-2009 would be appreciated
Thanks

OH and I have a deposit on a 09 Vector RS with 5000km. for $5800. but noticed an 08 nitro 40th for 5200 with 10,000km or a 09 nitro rtx for 6200 with 7000km and i have no idea what to do I know the vector is a base model its not the gt so thats why I'm looking.

From you are describing you should be riding a Nytro. The Vector is not a good ditch banger. Possibly stay away from the 2008 Nytro as they had some handling issues. But if you get a good deal on one you can stick some cash into to make it better. The Nytro is an awesome machine and there is plenty of info on this site on how to set it up. Shane.

The 09 nitro rtx seems like it would fit your riding style, a taller windshield would keep you warmer and there not too expensive

ok I was leaning towards the nytRo too and now that u tell me the factory 08 handling needed work Ill go today to seen the 09. Heres another question on that machine when i went to see it a few weeks ago it was at a dealer and was a trade in. It had no power and even with a boost it still wouldnt turn over. So they had to replace the stator, Starter solenoid and battery. Should i be concerened that these things failed on this machine after only 7000km?
Also I found a 09 VECtor GT LTX with 1700 miles for the same price. Should this be ok for my riding style or just go with the nitro?

And thanks to everyone for there fast replies.

You can't tell him to just stay away from 08s.. Lots of 08s out there have been modded and issues 'fixed'

When u say modded uup and issues fixed, what issues orfixes should be made? Skis for the front, and different shocks in the rear or replace the rear skid with a newer model skid or aftermarket?

Personally I would stay away from that one, troubles have just begun, probly why someone dumped it.

Ok i need to make a correction it was only the battery and solinoid which is common if it sat somewhere damp for a season. I have never had a stator issue so thats why I was asking. and Im located in Sarnia and to find a 09 nitro for 6500 -6800 is hard. I'll travel but there arent that many for sale. now there is a lot of 08 Nitro FX for 5200 up to 7600 but they are all original without the handling upgrades.

Personally, I think you were headed in the right direction with the Vector.

Riding a ditch isn't the same as "ditch banging". If your RX-1 was good enough to get you through the ditches to the trail, then the Vector will be about the same. The Vector will be warmer than a Nytro also. If you didn't mind the handling of the RX-1 then I'd get the best Vector your money can buy.

If you weren't happy with how your RX-1 handled the ditches then I'd suggest the Nytro as others have mentioned.
