I want to take my daughter riding this year but I don't know what to do for a helmet after looking at our local dealer. All the helmets there look huge and weigh at least 3lbs. What have others done to get the little ones out on the sleds?

Not sure what to tell you to use, helmet-wise. But consider using a foam-type of neck support brace, similar to what the NASCAR and Kart drivers are using.

A helmet is alot of weight bouncing around and a little neck trying to support it all, especially on a snowmobile. Good insurance for $50. I know I will be doing this when my little guy starts riding with me.

We used a THH kids moto-cross helmet. Look for anything that are specific for kids. Also its not a bad idea to use a neck brace. Try and google kids helmets. If you can find any let me know I'll pm you a website.

I bought my son a kids snow board helmet a few years ago. Real light, warm and protective. He still wears it riding around behind the house as opposed to his heavy HJC helmet.

HJC makes some pretty nice kids helmets. Mine have been riding since they were 4 years old

A full face hockey helmet (Inc visor) is decent for small kids .... not too heavy for the neck and you can use a balacalava under for warmth.

An old fashioned open face snomo helmet with a flip up face shield is liteweight and safe.

my duaghter is just 4 this winter and did some long rides last year with a regular kids full face helmet. People recommended different types of helmets, but none are near as warm. We never had any problems with it being too heavy (although she is not a sleeper on the sled).

We also use a harness to hook her to us while riding so we do not have to hold her.

your best bet for full coverage and light weight is a motocross style ... we are picking up one for when our daughter uses the 120. I just don't think she will be war enough in one for long trail rides.
