So i've been trying to get the primary assembly off the drive shaft, but it's being a b!tch.
I've unscrewed the front cover off the primary and taken out the spring, but it looks like the spider assembly is fixed onto the drive axle.
Does anyone have any experience taking their primaries off?
Could really use a hand.

Your statements are confusing. You say primary clutch, but then you say driveshaft. Since you mention spider I will assume you are talking about the Primary Clutch (the one mounted to the engine). Yes you will need to get a clutch puller to remove it from the tapper shaft of the engine (gear reduction shaft in the case of the Phazer). Remember to put some grease on the and of the puller before inserting it into the clutch. Out of curiosity what are you removing the clutch for? Not trying to beat on you, just want to make sure you get the info you need.

we've got some sheared off pieces around the main primary casing. Looking to take that piece out and get a new one.
Sorry if this sounds a little confusing.

sheared off? please post a pic? sheared off as clutch breaking a part? or the belt riped apart. im guessing clutch. the primary should not shear apart unless it has alot of miles, 6000 + or has been hit by something. if its cracking and falling apart at low miles contact ur dealer they might be able to get u a new clutch. a grading clutch is a major safety concern and im sure yamaha would rather give u a 400 buck clutch then a multi mill law suit from ur famly when it takes ur head off.

Does the belt guard have a big dent in it? Something must have contacted the clutch to cause that. Or did it just shatter? Either way I see what you attempting. Were you able to get a clutch puller and remove it yet? If all you want to do is remove the outer cover to get at the pieces then you just need to remove the six bolts holding the cover on. Just keep pressure on it loosen the bolts (I usually remove one from each segment first) slowly release the cover. Clean it out, and reinstall.

ok kinda high. might have trouble getting help from yamie with that. thats well past the 6000 mile mark. best bet is to get a new sheeve. dont need the hole clutch but would have a dealer do the work. not worth ur life trying to do it ur self unless ur pos ur doin it right and have the right tools. if u want tp take the chance u can get a puller from parts unlimted or like roal distirbuter or ur dealer might have one in stock. but ull also need a spyder wrence and a sheeve holder so u can sperate them. that info can prolly be found in the tech pages but i sugest have a dealer do it. 60 to 70 bucks an hr for a tops 2 hr job is well worth ur life.

It looks like it was rubbing against the plastic coverings...
All said and done, we;ve been busy with some other parts of our project that we've put the issue aside, but come Monday...i'll head down to the dealer with my engine and ask them to just pry it apart...know the srvice rep there and he could do it for free.
I'll update once more is done.
Cheers for the info
