So, this fall my wonderful wife picked me up a new leftover 16 XTX for our anniversary. I think she got an average deal, I've seen better ones out there but she bought local and I know the dealer well, so I'm not terribly upset over it. Anyhow, I've been working on the break-in and after the first ride (25 miles) I has to drop the skid to the lower holes like everyone else. The next ride was just bombing around by the house (15 miles) but I am concerned because it shut off randomly once, running the side of the road at roughly 15 mph. It didn't happen again, so who knows what that was all about. The third ride was Tuesday after work (another 30 miles) and it was completely uneventful, so hopefully it's a sign of things to come. First impressions, it pulls hard.... Holy crap. Ride quality is another planet from my old SX-R. Skis are terrible, is there anything short of buying a set of Curves that I can do to make this thing corner? The steering is already pretty heavy compared to what I'm used to, so I don't want to pull in my limiter strap, which is already tight. I can't wait until the snow gets a little deeper, I really want to see what this thing does in 3 feet of powder. And finally, since this is my first 4s are there any things I should watch for? And do you ever stop missing the old 2s smell?
Congratulations on your new sled and getting as a gift from wife is awesome! Your a lucky guy. Only thing a little different is to not start it unless riding it or fully warming it. Other than that it's easier ownership especially at fuel up time and only dealing with oil in spring. I admit the 2stroke smell does get heart going but only for a minute then it becomes annoying to m now. Any questions come up just ask and Welcome to the 4st side!

Snowtrackers fixed my skis as good as I need for now, if you're on a budget.
The reference to the "lower holes", you will see on the tunnel you can move the skid to a lower set of holes. As in the entire skid dropping an inch or so, there's empty holes already there.
I've never heard of not starting it if you're not riding it. I warm mine up until the lights go out before riding, otherwise it doesn't work so good.

I'm on a budget in the sense that I'd rather put the money that Curves would cost into the tank. If it keeps snowing like it has been around here it's going to be a long winter. It may end up not even being that big of an issue since my riding partners and I generally only ride trails to get to our next spot off trail. I'm curious how these skis are in the real powder. Also have to get the swaybar off this thing pretty quick. It's been so long since I had one I forgot how much I dislike them. I already went to the lower holes because of the drivers hitting the skid rails.Snowtrackers fixed my skis as good as I need for now, if you're on a budget.

They do make a swaybar quick disconnect fyi. About $50 if you want to keep it on.

Nope, every time my riding suit gets wet I still get that smell! My SX-R and SRX put lots of stink into that suit! Can't say I miss that smell at all.And do you ever stop missing the old 2s smell?

Can I just remove the link from one side and leave the rest there? It almost looks like the bar may hit the tab on the a-arm if it compresses independently of the opposite side.Yup, they work awesome until you hit that wash out pretty hard and break both ball ends and loose the link, ask me how I know.
It only takes 10 minutes to completely remove it. Just try it out without it or yes it will hit.Can I just remove the link from one side and leave the rest there? It almost looks like the bar may hit the tab on the a-arm if it compresses independently of the opposite side.

I switched out my tuners for a set of pilot 6.9's with 6" shaper bars. Sold my tuners on eBay for $100.00 after it was all said and done it cost $200.00 to do the mod. I'd imagine you would come close to that just buying new carbides for the tuners. it handles like its on rails now and only have to buy one set of carbides from here on out

what skis did you have on your sxr? might go right on apex if you still have them.

Plain old stockers. Never felt the need to change them. In fact this is the first sled I've ever rode that was so terrible that I felt like it needed something different.what skis did you have on your sxr? might go right on apex if you still have them.
