New (2012 used) Apex Owner With a Couple Questions.

Congratulations on the new to you sled.

Q1 I don't know of any way to stop the cable from breaking so I removed mine. I made a adjusting knob to attach in place of the cable which works but a pain when you get ice build up.

Q2 Take a 10mm wrench to check the total thickness of the slider, if they get to that point anywhere on the slider replace. If you put on the dupont sliders they should last a long time. I run over sized wheels with the ski-do 2 bolt mounts and I've got 6,000km on them and are still good. They wear like crazy for the first 2/3 of the thickness and then stop wearing.

Hey TBay Sledhead, explain to me the 10mm wrench method for checking my slides?

You place a 10 mm wrench to measure the hight of the slides from the side. Regular Yamaha slides have a wear line at 10 mm you can just look for it but DuPont's do not so wrench or measure ruler is needed to check for the 10 mm thickness minimum.

Thanks Phatboyc! That's what I figured but wasn't sure. Based on that mine seem to have plenty of meat and based on what you just told me about the Du Ponts not having wear marks I think that is what I have on the sled because I cannot see any lines on them. I plan on pulling everything apart in the rear end anyway and was wondering how I tell for sure If they are the Du Pont slides? Do they say so or have a certain part number on them somewhere?

They'll have red inserts angled across the slide for about 3/4 of the length. Do a Google image search for DuPont slides for Yamaha.

I google image search couldn't find it. I don't see any red on mine. Got them 2 years ago.

Oh I misunderstood. You said to watch for red inserts... I though somehow you where talking about a wear line I didn't know about. Yes the duponts inserts is where all the magic happens!
