New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

Wait, doesn't "cross plane" mean each lobe on the crank is 90 degrees off from each other? I'm no engine expert, but I'm not sure that can be done with 3 cylinders...
This thread makes me Happy and Sad all at once... LOL!
I think u r correct which means it has to be a 4cyl

I was thinking that after I wrote it. Watching the video on YouTube explaining how that crankshaft works I think you're right. Looks like not able to do it in 3 cylinder. So I guess I'll stick to my original theory. New Apex?

I brought this up earlier in the thread. You are correct, it isn't a true crossplane as you have to have multiples of 4 cylinders, but Yamaha states with it's 3 cylinders that it's "crossplane technology" - not sure how that's possible, but that's what they say.

Yamaha's cross plane dynasty, began in

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2013/may/may0913-yamaha-planning-crossplane-dynasty/

Instead Yamaha refers to the triple as being “inspired by the linear driving power of the crossplane concept” and saying that the “crossplane concept of eliminating unwanted inertial torque… forms the basis of the new three-cylinder Yamaha engine.”

Yamaha is careful to steer clear of actually calling the triple a ‘crossplane’ design. While the crank throws of the R1’s four-cylinder crossplane engine form a true ‘X’ when looking at the crankshaft, end-on, that’s not really possible on an engine with less than four crank throws, like a triple or a twin.

They redesigned the tank smaller because the old tanks you could never fill to the top the air pocket created would never let you fill it. So what they are stating even though the tank capacity is less. The actual amount you have in the tank hasn't changed

Actually you could fill them up ....you had to burp them lol....lift up the back end after you had filled it up and it would hold another gallon.

Do you guys remember Moto Gp 2007?. 800cc 4 hole CP☺

Regulations again changed for the 2007 season with the capacity of MotoGP machines reduced to 800 cc in an effort by the FIM to reduce the ever increasing speeds of the 990 cc bikes (capable of well in excess of 210 mph (340 km/h)); therefore the YZR-M1 would continue in 2007 in 800 cc form. In post-2006 and in 2007 pre-season testing, the new 800 cc equipped YZR-M1 (along with other 800 cc MotoGP bikes) has been paradoxically quicker straight out of the box than the 990 cc version of the M1. This is by virtue of later, harder braking, quicker handling, higher corner speeds, and more controllable traction, and as the 2007 season got under way, the 800 cc YZR-M1 was expected to get quicker as its development continued.

Maybe it's 800cc Cp

Turbo vs naturally aspirated engine arctic Cat likes turbo yamaha not who will get there will? Also mountain would want turbo, CR Days they've been working on this Project for five years wich means pre- Cat officially at least. very interesting to see what comes out!

They rev like 18 000 rpm with 240+ hp :D

I see some comments about a possible 4 holer, but haven´t member "Journeyman" already kind of confirmed that the new machine is a 3 holer !??
Assumingly a very fast 3 holer, but nevertheless not a true replacement for the Apex...
Looking at the only spy picture we have so far, I would say it looks like a re-worked, new-plastic, spiced-up Viper, probably with the 3 cyl 998 taken from the YXZ1000R.

So maybe a new Apex 4 holer will come for the 2018 50th celebration?... one can hope at least;-)

Hope this new chassis can be bought with 3 different engines and 1 engine with turbo.
And also chose 4 track lenght
A new 500/600cc 4 stroke
and 3-cyl 4 stroke with ore without turbo
AND the aweysome 4 holer 4-stroke :)
I WILL be buying a new Yamaha sled for next seson

And for 2018 you can buy the 4-holer with turbo also :)

How about an upgraded and improved (only based on what I've read) Single Shot suspension?

Higher seat and better ergo's on the Vector's......if there is a Vector next year.

I dont think the yxz engine will turn the rest of the snowmobile UNIVERSE! to snow dust!
