The second Pic has been posted for days now?? First one is new...Well guys guess the rumors are true, They will look like cats. Here is a pick from Island park today. Looks like Cat mixed their 2011 front end with the 2016 geometry IMO to lower the Yamaha motor, and fit the extra cooling the Yamaha needed

I don't know if I'm missing something here ... It was stated very clearly in the interview with Yamaha and Cat that Cat has finished their agreement with Suzuki and needs a 2 stroke motor supplier ... They have a relationship with Yamaha already so why would they go outside of this t source a 2 stroke? I'm with you! I think Yamaha will have a 2 stroke motor in a snowmobile .... In a Cat for Sure 100% but in a Yamaha... ? Who the hell knows .. I doubt it ..Want to make a bet?

Actually in the interview they said they finnished the 4stroke agreement. And that in 4stroke market they are teammates but in 2strokes they are competitors

If they were interested in continuing the development of HPDI they would have kept building the outboards (where they sell a huge amount of product). They quit building HPDI outboard and replaced them with a lighter weight VERY high tech larger displacement 4-stroke engine. So why would they bother building what is essentially a one off motor for a tiny segment of a tiny market???
There is a reason there were never any small hpdi outboards...the pump takes power to turn and it's bigger than an alternator....
If I had to guess...its a turbo viper with a motor built for boost and it'll make 180hp...

My biggest problem is I'm addicted to the power now! lol. I'll probably keep my viper for another couple years unless a 1000 etec or factory 2 stroke makes 180 horsepower. Until then I'll keep my thumper. I got too much money invested now to just walk away anyways!
Hpdi is far to complex for a sled. It weighs a ton and doesn't like to rev. AND yamaha doesn't build 2-strokes.....it ain't happening.
Yamaha builds thousands of 2 strokes every year. In fact they have recommitted to building 2 stroke motocross and off road bikes and from my observation as a motocross rider they sell out fast. I realize that a new snowmobile engine would require significantly updated technology from where they are with the motocross engines but the potential cross over injection technology could make it cost effective for Yamaha to look at an 800 cc snowmobile engine. Interestingly enough, Suzuki has abandoned the 2 stroke motorcycle business except for the RM85. Arctic Cat is in need of an updated 800 engine. I am by no means slighting the performance of the current Cat engine but I believe Cat guys want a new engine.Lets say Yamaha and Arctic Cat account for 30-35 percent of the market. That equates to about 50,000 new snowmobiles a year in sales. If 30 percent of those new sleds are 800 cc you are looking at the need to produce 15,000 800 engines to supply both companies so it would seem there would be some demand. A side benefit is 2 strokes increase dealer traffic. I have one. I have to buy oil on a regular basis. Belts dont last as long, and sleds get traded and turned over more frequently. Who knows.......
