I doubt it, even with gearbox and tcs to save the trail.

With the all new ski-doo 850 motor and chassi, Yamaha better step up the game. The 1000cc 3syl 180hp new egine and the small changes to the plastic and light on the new Viper will help. But after riding my 16 Viper MTX. Fit and finnish is far from the BRP standards. And thats embarrassing. I tried a Renegade x 900ace with 170hp Turbokit. And wow this engine is so much smoother running. Just feel tight and the sound is awesome. My Viper sounds like a bad china engine. Idling badly and sounds bad. ( starter issue is from this reason )
 
Detuned 998cc cp4 150ish HP?
Or 847cc cp3 120ish HP?

I can vouch for the smooth linear power of the 900 Ace. I own one and it is surprisingly smooth. It's not at all like the 4-Ts that Yamaha builds in terms of snappy torque and there's not the same type of 'throw you over the bars' engine braking with this motor ...maybe that's just clutching, but it's definitely a solid motor, perfectly capable of handling low boost. It can handle 4-5 lbs., which will bring the power to around 135 without needing any engine internals. But I'd be worried about higher boost, even with stronger internals. Here's a sampling of the 900 Ace turbo'd in a Lynx Xtrim package:

Agree with the lower end power, but what can you expect from a 900cc engine :D And yes the clutch is not the best for performance. And there are limited options on aftermarket parts. People her are using Team clutches. And 170 hp without changing internals seems to work perfect :D

And why call it Vtech when its a MCX turbokit ? :D

Did I read that right? An engine design from the start to be low cost low hp is now pushing almost twice as what it was meant to be? I'll bet it wont last the rest of the winter. lol

Ace engines are filling a good market all others should invest in. But in no way is a motor that should be boosted. Look at CR's blog for the internals in that engine. It was unfairly compared to the Nytro engine but it gives you a good idea.
 
Lets be real guys,with all the excitement and drama about Yamaha and Ski Doo lately,I find it rather interesting how people always have their own prescription of ( they should have ,could have and would haves) Why ?????.Everybody wants to be an expert.Both companies are both competive to one another and both have great concepts amongst some falters in the mix.Lets face it,if they were perfect ,aftermarket companies would be out of business as well as service department s.I want to be truthful with everyone,I owned both makes and found Ski Doo has some great features,such as cosmetics ,( look prettyer)lighter,handle nice and run nice when they do,I will also let you know from ownership experience with a SkiDoo,I had my fair share of costly breakdowns, their famous piston,crank,magnetofailures,$45.00 a gallon 2 stroke oil,all to common which made me switch to a Yamaha.I own a Apex XTX with a few suspension upgrades,and I will personally say its the better machine although a bit heavier than SD.BUT,I found the Apex to outperm the ski doos as far as the power,comfort in all day riding and definitely reliability as I have had not one single issue with the sled other than popping a fuse for heated helmet shield.Last but not least,we should all also keep in mind,most importantly the type of riding we do here in the east coast is trail riding,some off trail,my point being,how much more power do you really need to ride the trails before you will be required to sign a death certificate.I am an aggressive rider as well and know what my Apex is capable of becoming the Screaming Demon within,but I do ride responsibly and really only use half its power and I have no issue keeping up with others with plenty to spare. To each his own.

And still it beats the Yamaha engine in every aspect. Except the 40hp difference. I don`t give s... what its made from, it performs perfect. Even with 170hp! Thats more than we can say about the Yamaha engine. They have lost it totally putting firstly a cheap ECU and then crappy internal parts. They are going backwards and its embarrassing.

Yeah I talked to a guy riding a brand new Ski Doo 1200 and he was getting almost the same mpg as I am with my 04 Warrior. You would think since Doo's are sooo much lighter and with modern fuel injection that they would get way better mpg than a old carbed sled. Maybe that motor isn't all its cracked up to be.
