New Engine in 2016 Vipers and Other Changes

They will get same top speed with less hp? If they are selling magic beans next to then grab me a pouch

If they fixed the clutch from 2014 - 2015 they could certainly go same speed with less HP, if they really did drop HP.

i sure hope they give me some more info.
i dont get this at all. i just called my dealer, they have no idea. It would be nice to know if they are just going to leave me with my 2016 that isnt a 2016 anymore.

Does not surprise me. I don't think even Yamaha USA snowmobile division knows. From what I have seen with their marketing etc it's a 3 ring circus.

But hey the 1049 "jettisons you from corner to corner"

This motor thing has been in discussion for months on here and elsewhere. I think if your dealer claims he had no knowledge he either had his head in the sand or ............ his Donkey (A$$)

We were told about the changes to the Vector motor, I have yet to see a bulletin or piece of literature that states the Viper got the same treatment.

We have a service school in 3 weeks, Im sure they will talk about it then.

I have not got mine yet but assume it will be the new version. It is not the same motor as the YXZ but does share parts from what I can see. The viper, as Ulmer has stated, has a longer stroke for the added displacement. I would imagine that the horsepower will be the same as the previous one. Only thing that seems really different is they have beefed it up for a future turbo application across all their platforms.

As far as what your dealer knows, I doubt they know anything. I would doubt the sales reps or even the people at Yamaha Canada or Yamaha US are really that tuned into as to when the switch was coming.

They probably did not know when the switch was coming!!! I imagine their was quite a few of the previous on the shelf and the run continued to they were all used up. I know we bitch about all this but 2 companies trying to work through 2 different but same sleds and tracking parts inventory has got to be a nightmare. And now there is how versions of the Viper just on the Yamaha side.

I will not make excuses for Yamaha. This has happened every year with Viper so far. Both the new Vector and the YXZ all info including manuals and exact specs were out well before delivery to the dealers. It looks to me like Cat is running the snowmobile show and Yamaha has no clue what the sleds will be till they are at Dealer. It's shameful and not worthy of Yamaha way. You guys saying everybody should have known are wrong. We all knew it was coming but not already. I take pride in trying to be well informed and go out of my way to be informed. This was a total surprise to me also. I feel sorry for those with old 16 and new 16. Feel like this site and all of us let you guys down. Sorry.

Well I don't disagree. But I'm not the only one with an old engine in a 16. I'm not sure to be happy with the proven engine, or pissed I don't get the newest stuff when I bought the newest sled

You haven't let us down ! But I feel Yamaha owes costumers some explanation.

I sent an email to Yamaha asking for info on why my sled has the older series engine and skis.

But info is all I'll receive I bet. I'll let you all know.

This stuff is happening on pure Yamaha models also. A member on here just picked up a 2016 vector and it has tuner 2 skis not tuner 3 like it's supposed to have. Was also sitting in warehouse in lower Michigan since September and just got to dealer in U.P. Seems like logistics are off as well as they ship common carrier and they are billed by unit so they can put 1 or 10 on a truck and the cost is the same.

Specifications subject to change without notice
Read the fine print.
If they want to change it they can and the fine print saves them any explaning.
Its a bunch of bullsheet
Yep. And you know what. I bought the sled knowing what engine is in it. And I love this engine. Just burns me they would make such a drastic change mid build

$10 bucks says you won't see starter gear or starter failure anymore. From pics the starter itself is different. It's filled in between the mounts and the idler gear looks to be narrower. Looks just like Phazer one I beat on with sledge. That issue may have had some bearing on this. Just trying to be glass half full here.
