I am looking at getting a new 130-135 hp sled and was wondering how the Nytro compared to the 1200 Ski-doo in top end and in deeper snow performance? Will the Nytro get up and plane on top of say 8-10 in of new snow or does it like to trench like my Attak? Would be great to get as many replies as possable from those of you who had direct comparisions? Thanks

Compare to my brothers attak my nytro gets up onplane much better once I changed to the cobra track. With the stock ripsaw it would trench, but not as bad as my brothers attak. No comparison to a skidoo 1200 though

Nytro does not float like a ski doo. The doo with the larger pilots floats good for a shorty . The nytro is faster in top end and off the line. The 1200 has civil faster mid range. All in all the 1200 is more of a sit down stance that is more civil, and the nytro can and wants to be ridden like a cross country sled.

If you want good deeper snow performance and are buying new get a Nytro XTX 1.75. I could have went with any brand when I got my new Nytro this year, but in the end Yamaha quality and reliability brought me back.

I own a 121" Nytro and ride 3 different 136" 1200's frequently...2 are GSX's, 1 is a Renegade. I don't do a lot of off trail but from what little I do:

The 1200 gets on top of the snow a lot better and is less prone to trenching. IMO its not because I have a shorter track...I think its because of the steep angle of the track on the Nytro as well as the way the front end is designed and how aerodynamic the Doo chassis is. I thought I read that the new XTX 1.75 has a shallower track angle but not sure. But anyway, the added length and lug height will make it way better than my 121.

The Nytro carves turns in deep snow much better IMO. The 1200 has the wide body panels and it feels like a 90's sled with a higher seat so it isn't as easy to lean over. Plus the ergos on the Nytro are better for off trail riding.

Its really a toss up. With the 1.75 though, I'd lean towards the Nytro.

Thanks for the information from those that responed. It would be nice to get more information from more Nytro owners on how they stack up to a 1200 on a lake run. Is the XTX faster than a shortie?

this is the topic your wanting to know info about, its in the head to head section.

the xtx is faster on topend than an rtx only because the track angle is alot shallower. the 1200 and the nytro stack up very close together in almost every category, except the "fun factor" but thats just my opinion.

Nate hit it on the head....fun factor is Nytro XTX....and its also better for taller riders due to the bigger cockpit.

The one thing I noticed is that the 1200 Renegade (2011) doesn't bank onto its side nearly as easy as the Nytro when in powder. For all the complaints on the Nytro handling, the 1200 Renegade is sketchy and unbalanced when counter steering compared to the Nytro, even with stock skis. I think the Renegade has too short a Riser....maybe 3" too short!

The XTX's are not really bad trenchers. The older RTX and MTX with the older style tunnel and skid are the real trenchers......I'd stay away from these if powder performance is important.

On trail manners, the Renegade probably handles better.

Like all things, depends really on what kind of riding you do.

Thanks Nate for the infor in the head to head section.

My neighbor has a 1200 Ski Doo and the main thing I've noticed is Quality. The Nytro has a little better fit & finish, but the biggest thing to me is the weight ratio. The 1200 feels lighter, but keep in mind that the 1200 has a lighter chassis, but a heavier dual over head cam engine that produces about 8 less power than the SOHC Nytro.

IMO: I would rather have the weight in the chassis than the engine and the extra 8HP.

i have a 1200 renegade and my friend has a shorty nytro, in a drag race my renegade is quicker from a stop to top end, beat him all the time by 3 sled lengths, even on a rolling run i pull him, both machines are 100% stock and have 2 studs per bar. on the gun they ran the same mph
