Hi there, I am new here, just found this forum. I have had several yamaha's in the past, most recently a V-MAX4 800, and an RX-1. I just picked up a new 07 Phazer FX, and must say I love this sled, fun fun fun to ride, very easy to toss around.
I am however having some issues, and only have 300kilometers on the machine. Most are the usual, icing, hard start and overheating. All updates were done this week, and I will see how it rides this weekend, but the problem that most concerns me, and that I feel my dealer has NOT taken me seriously on is the track.
at about100k on the machine, I was riding from my cabin to the restaurant in town for supper, and when i stopped, it smelled terribly of melting rubber. Thinking belt, I pulled the cover off, and nothing. looking underneath, the exhaust is COVERED in little bits of rubber. The track seems to disintegrate if I ride on hardpack, or an icy road, even if the distance is less than 1 kilometer, and my dealer says my track is overheating and not to ride on ice. Yeah, okay.... :ORC its a snowmobile, I was on hard SNOW, and it was around -28.
anyone else have this issue?

Welcome aboard!...
The track isn't fully clipped on these, so it's probably were he rubber and the slides touch would gett hotter and melt quicker than the clips on the slides. If you have to ride ice or hard pack a lot or for long runs you might want to consider clipping the rest of the track, it should help.

Once your slides wear to point where the bogey wheels do some work this issue will mostly go away especially on hardpack. On ice you will always have to look for some snow to lube it a bit.

Check your rear suspension link. When it fails it will bury the front shock into the track. Not long after the track will fail.

Thanks for the welcome, I did about 200 miles this past weekend, and have to say that with the side shields on, the ice buildup was worse. I am closing my tunnel, and taking them off.
On that note, does anyone else think that the rear toolbox is the most useless thing going?

That smell is normal, noticed it too. It goes away as your slides wear in... or off. lol
