New Nytro owner here!! --- long story, but worth to read..?

Hey guys. Just got back from the U.P. in Michigan. I have/had a 2000 Yamaha SRX. Its always been a great sled, but the past 2 years i've had problems. I.E.: Burnt pistons, stater, bad cylindor, etc. Not only that but it will also need a new track. My Uncle and dad talked sense into me and basically said there is no reason to keep dumping money into a sled i can't get my money back when i sell. Not only that, but driving 7 hours to snowmobile, then having problems it really sucks!!

So we went into Curtis (the yamaha dealer in Christmas shut down) and stopped by Watsons Yamaha. Those guys were so cool and nice. I got to try out a 2009 Yamaha Nytro XTX (white/silver) on the lake behind their shop and i fell in LOVE! I really think the 144" track is the way to go for trail riding and deep powder. The pull was great, and 100 mph is plenty fast for me. I'm going to pick her up Tuesday!!

I was a little dissapointed with the 7 1/2 gallon tank capacity but the group i go with rarely go over 100 miles before we hit a gas tank anyway. If we were making a long run to the west like to Big Bay i might get nervous, but from Munising to Grand Marai is roughly 60 miles, then Seney is 40 so it shouldn't be a big deal fuel wise.

All in all i guess im asking are you guys happy with your 2009 XTX? Or do you wish you went with a 121" track? Is there anything you would make a minor change too? Thank you all and i can't wait to really break her in!!!!!!

Congratulations on your new XTX! I have roughly 700 miles on mine and I came off an 06 SDI & yes I really like this 4 stroke. Are there minor changes or challenges to this machine Yes:

1) Get new skis ( I purchased Curves & I like them but am trying new carbides as the one that came with them are too agresive and make it a very hard steering machine ) I will be trying them this week-end so I will know if they help.

2) get the Trail Tank ( 10 gallon after market tank ) well worth the money if you want to travel good distances and have no worry.

3) Ice build up in the tunnel is crazy ( Yamaha needs a solution but nothing yet ) some have removed the tunnel protectors or have added plates with some success

4) Hand warmers are not the best although can live with them.

5) Hold on tight & ride this thing becasue the above are small things in my opinion. Yes they should & need to be addressed however I do not regret this switch for one minute I am extremely happy with my first 4 stroke & I look forward to riding every chance I get.

And those little things you listed aren't so little to me lol. seems kinda expensive.

Is there any reason to upgrade to fox suspension?

Changing the skis are a MUST on these sleds,I have the C&A Razors and love them! Plus they are the best looking ski out there IMO.

Thanks fo rthe comments I appreciate it, I like how it turned out as well. I have since added a white skid plate, Billet gas cap & chromed the screens it turned out pretty sweet. I have tried to load pictures a couple of time here although I cannot remember how to do it. If you really want to see some PM me with your email address & I will send some to you! As for the Fox suspension I don't think you need it although that is just my opinion!

I like my Nytro very much. The fun factor is high. As far buying new ski's, I just swaped out my carbides for the Stud Boy dual carbides.... and my sled is on rails now. I also had to adjust my limiter strap by once notch. It's a cheaper option should you not like the factory set-up.

I came off an '04 Rev 800, and was in almost the same situation as you. Took every precaution with the sled, and it still let me down... So on the way home from a mildly ruined trip because of the REV I bought my XTX. Couldn't be happier. The little issues are all made up for by the motor and the ditch-banging prowess of this sled. I love the longer skid, but all my sleds have longer tracks. I find the 121" sleds to be too limited for the type of riding I generally do. I second what others have said about the skis, although i went with Slydog Powderhounds. The stockers can work pretty good with a little extra ski pressure in good groomed conditions, but otherwise are lacking. Be aware that you will have to relearn how to ride to get the most out of the Nytro chassis. The sled requires a lot more rider input on the trails to get it to rail the corners. Can't sit on the back of the seat and just steer... as least unless you're going pretty slow. I found the 1.25" track to be slightly inadequate if you venture off-trail so I went with a 1.75". The warmers stink, so make sure you get additional wind protection. Other than that- the sled is great. Fuel mileage can be a bit of a problem especially if you like to boondock, but I've learned to deal with it. I think you'll love it. Doubt you'll ever look at a 2-smoke again....

I like my sled allot . but the 2009 XTX is very unpredictable in the corners.
you have to ride it like you stole it if you want to catch your friends . not to say you can't do it. I had better luck on my 2002 ZL 600 in the corners, with 96 pic's and good carbides the sled just didn't have the power on the long stretch. the 800renagade DOO got me all the time. so if you like to go fast in the corners you have to jockey it all day long. EveryBody told me to tighten my limiter strap adjust my shocks now I ordered a transfer block from hauck racing. they said that would cure my problem.Nice sled but if I was going to do it again I would pick up something different for the kind of riding I do.

Thanks all for the important information. I know with a 2000 SRX and 2002 Viper you are more at a sitdown, and can really whip the things in a corner. Im only 155 - 160 pounds but you can still use your weight to whip them.

However i did kinda see that if you let up going into a corner you will put alot of weight in the front and it will push. I do look forward to running this bad boy.

I might try different carbides first, but i will see how it does stock first. What are some good sites for aftermarket Nytro parts!? Skiis, bigger tank, etc?

Yeah, i ride alot of trails, but i also like going off track in the deep powder. A boat anchor SRX isn't the best lol. So i think this 144" track was the way to go for trail riding and going off doing my own thing!

I kinda did the same thing last year. I was on a trip to the UP and my Viper overheated (no rear Heat exchanger) so I went to Watson in Curtis and bought an Attack. I see you don't have your location in your profile which is mandatory on this site, the admins will soon get you. If you live in Wi and not Mi don't let them charge you sales tax. They said they had to charge me sales tax (Mi rate) and that Wi would reemburse me since Mi is higher. Nope no way! Don't pay Mi sales tax if you are from Wi.

We had a member, Ding, install an XTX skid in his Viper and it literally transformed the sled. He's very happy with the way it works. This is what I did for my MTX to increase the range, not sure if there is enough room on the XTX. It's a 5 liter(quart) can.

Where do you guys buy your after market skiis and such? I will run my Nytro next tuesday or monday when i pick her up, and if its anything like you guys say i might be in trouble. But again, i will try the stockers first.

I ride mainly groomed trails, and will do a little bit off trail riding here and there... what would be a good skii for groomed trails and little off trailing? C&A Razors?? And throw some different carbides on them? Any Help is appreciated.

I bought USI triple threat ski's off ebay for 285 the guy has an ebay store and lists all the time great ski's for this sled many ski reviews on this site and not one has been disappointed with these ski's, the razors are too aggressive and hard to steer has been the consensus, also the slydogg ski's, the skidoo pilots or the USI triple threats or alot of good reviews on the curve industries ski's, but also a few negative comments on them.

I also put on the Drag N Fly clutch weights from super torquer systems and love them a huge gain in power from low to high end.

I put in the fitch fuel catalyst like I do in all my sleds and it will increase your average fuel mileage between 1/2 and 1 mpg, with a slight hp increase due to the gas you are using being in optimum burning condition, it can have a profound effect when filling up at places that that are a little out of the way and don't have the best gas... oh yeah one more thing with the fitch is you don't have to use stabilizer over the summer as the fuel won't degrade, just some seafoam for the water in the tank and to clean the lines in the fall...

Using a product called Reverup from Blue marble oil will also condition the metal in the engine and make it more efficient showing a 1-2 hp increase in hp and better gas mileage.

Get a set of cr10ek spark plugs these are good for a 1-2 hp increase most of the top site members have all done this with good results.

These are a few of the low cost tricks that I use and I allways use less gas at the pump than my buddies, which just kills them as I am about 50 pounds heavier and they just can't figure it out, ha... luckily they never are on this site...

lol thank you for the very important information. Im nervous to do any mods to a sled because everytime anyone seems to mod something, it seems to be less reliable on the trails.

with the reverup do you dump a can or something in the fuel tank after every few fill ups?
