Attention all RS riders ! A new touring accessory rack is available that will neatly carry 3 sets of Hyfax and 6 idler wheels plus all tools to make the repairs. The unit is designed for Vector and Rage riders taking those long 1,000 mile trail rides. A second model will be available for the Venture which will hold 5 Hyfax and 10 idlers, which should get you close to a 1,000 mile range. However, 1 reload on the Venture unit may be required during the trip. Both units also have a handy compartment for ear plug storage to solve the Track Howl. See your Yamaha dealer for more details and pricing.

Good sense of humor! Sad but true, seems like a lot to deal with for a new ride!
I'll have to pick one of those up. When were at the skidoo dealer getting my buddy's motor rebuilt,I can change my hyfax and check my wheels out.

Are we going to have to pay for the rack or will it be a update?

I wish I had a camera last year. A group of riders were going to make a Gaspe' run (1,200 - 1,500 miles). They had a set of Hyfax duct taped to the sides of their tunnels. It looked pretty baazar. They looked like a bunch of Gypsies.
If they come through this year I will have to ask them if they heard about the new parts rack.
Now everyone will be able to take long distance trips first class!

I haven't been on the site too much this year so I not up to speed with the hyfax drama. In fact it confuses me.
Why, I just changed mine for the 1st time. They lasted for 5100 miles, that would be Five Thousand One Hundred miles (not a typo). They still had atleast an 1/8" left in the thinnest spots. I ride at 60-85 maybe the fast riding breaks them in better.

RS Venture was designed with a 27" (+/-) slide span without any inside or outside intermediate wheel suspension. Thus causing premature HyFax wear. Marginal snow wheels mounted approximately 9.5 inches forward of the rear axle helps considerably. Over sized bogie wheels also help reduce track howl and hyfax wear.
For further info go back and read some other threads regarding this issue. There is much written on this topic.

Yeah I am with you I think people must be doing alot of road riding (or marginal snow riding) or their suspensions are set up wrong because I have no hyfax issue or track howl on my Vector either.

I've got 9000km on my Vector and have only changed the hifax once.
I changed them because I had the rear skid out, they had some good life left in them yet.

I don't get how some people get so many miles out of the hyfax. I have always had the dealer do the service and suspension adjustments, as well as setting the track tension. I have double checked everything myself to make sure. I still only got about 900 miles out of my first set - I am guessing because I never expected it to be an issue and I didn't look close enough. By the time I realized there was a problem, I wore through the right side and toasted the rail. I got about 600 miles from the second set and wore 1/2 through the third set in 420 miles.
See other threads for the rest of the saga but I just don't get why some don't have the same problem. Sure, I hit a plowed road from time to time but if the conditions are really marginal, I ride my other sled ( a Polaris so who really cares about that one).
I'll be sure to pick up the new accessory rack though. Good idea.

Up here in the Keweenaw pennsula of michigan the trails are really powdery. I guess the trade off for 5000+ mile Hyfax is lower gas mileage. All 4 sleds me or my dad owned got 3500+ on the slides.
Is there one point on it where it wore really bad or was it at multiple points. I got the deep wear at multiple points.

Mainerider- It seems to be a real problem anytime on groomed/packed trails or lake riding and road riding. My first trip to Quebec last year I only got 350 miles and they were down to the rails. Second set only got 200 miles. I was riding with other brand sleds (not allowed to mention brand) and they had no wear at all. Stopped at a Yamaha dealer in Quebec and they said some guys were only getting 75 miles per set.
I put on the marginal snow wheels and the next 2 trips we were riding in all fresh snow at least 4". Very little wear in 2500 miles.
The amount of fresh snow seems to be the cause. Just do off trail mountain riding and you should be OK.
