New sidewinder experience

I disagree about the noise. It is there all the time at slow to moderate trail speeds and doesn't go away until high speed. Both of us thought it was ridiculous. We were going to take it back thinking something was wrong with it but then i got on here and found out that they all do it. He is just quite dissapointed by it. My wife's Vector does not elpsmake this racket either. We will work on suspension setup to try to lesson steering effort.

Yeah I know all about the 3 cylinder 4 stroke noisy clutch syndrome. It really bothered me at first, but I have to say I now enjoy that diesel like sound during idle. I call it my little diesel.

And yes they do overheat very easy. I have found that dropping the suspension down by putting all on 1 helps greatly, on a very hard packed trail with not much loose snow!

Kind of reminds me of my past Yamaha’s. Vipers, Rx1 and Attak all had similar problems but were easily remedied by adding the rear cooler. Cannot do that on the Winders.

My Srx’s and my SX had rear coolers stock, so no problem on those old sleds!!

I have Cummins turbo diesel emblems on mine. No questions asked.
lol

Also experimenting with my first set of ice Scratchers !

Good idea, maybe I will look for a Kubota sticker or emblem. Cute answer Sump Buster, almost as good as one from another TY member about Arctic Cat steeling the thunder from Ysmaha when the Tcat was elected sled of the year in 2017 by I think Snowtech!!

You know what?
God is great
Beer is good
And people are crazy!!

Seriously considering a 'Diesel Fuel Only'
sticker for the gas cap. As long as I don't forget.....

no broken clip.... actually its the holes in the ends of the pads or not round... they are oval thus causing the pads to rattle
You may have a broken clip. Should maybe investigate that with your dealer.

Some of that rattle your mentioning could be track and driver noise, some of these sleds make a lot of noise and then after a couple hundred miles things seem to wear in and the rattle from the track area goes away.
As far as the clutch rattle goes it’s hardly noticeable, take an early model vector for a drive if you want to know what clutch rattle is. I know the clutch rattle is annoying if you’ve never heard it before, but part of it is the engine is just to quiet so the clutch rattle is very noticeable.

I took my 2015 xtx Apex our today for the first time since winter 2016, I have it as my back up sled and I figured better take it out and remember how it feels,
well I can honestly say boys we just gotta turn the page on the old Apex cause there is nothing on that sled that you can compare to a Sidewinder!

My Sidewinder turns as easy, ski’s bite more in turns, it more comfortable, it’s quiet, mine gets just as good gas mileage and actually has more range cause tank is bigger, it’s warmer to ride, the handling don’t even go there, and you can mount luggage behind the seat, ahhh the heated seat!
I can go on and on!

Don’t compare an Apex to a Sidewinder as there is no comparison!!
And I was a Apex man all the way as that’s why I kept it.

Just my thoughts!
Agreed. I'll not sell my Apex because while old school there's no sound like that motor and the instant took is fun too. But, handling and suspension, not close.

If you want to stay satisfied with the old Apex chassis, stay off a well set up Winder. There really is no comparing the seating positioning, handling, bump capability and of coarse, that 998 grunt and power which is the best in the sport by far right now!
We shall see soon enough if the Winder can stay on top for another year, for the 2019 showcase is about to begin!

lol

All 3 cylinder yamahas have clutch rattle, been doing it since 04. Only time you can hear it is while idling.

The way the suspension is setup from the factory, the steering effort is hard.

Weird about the temp light, driving too slow maybe? Even on long road stretches, mine doesnt overheat. They do heat up while idling, and probably while driving slow.
I putted for hours on mine never got that hot and it was plus 4 out . just a little rattle during idle.. doesnt bother me.. To be honest It's Been the best sled I"ve owned . And I bought over a dozen of them lol
