I just LOVE my RAGE!dar6ren said:OK, coming off a 2003 RX1. I got a chance to ride the 2005 and 2006's this past weekend in Florence NY. They let us take the 2005's for a "decent" trail ride maybe 7 miles round trip. But the trail was pretty bad by Sunday. As for the 2005's I spent my time on the Vector, Rage and RX1. As you know the Rage has the longer track (136). It was a night and day difference in the bump handling between the Rage and Vector. In fact the Rage was better across the board. Much more stable, much more comfortable, than the Vector and the RX1. I played with the mono shock adjustment on the RX1, although I could seat of the pants feel a difference going from full soft to hard....it still didn't handle as well as the Rage. FYI, the yamaha rep that led our pack of riders was ridnig pretty hard and I was 2nd in line so lets just say we weren't babying thes units.
Pls note the temps were in the 40's and the trails were sloopy so this is just one example.
They only let the 2006's out for three passes around a very smalle field ...which sucked. I can say they are totally different! But can''t pass judgement one way or the other...wasn't fair to evaulate in the little seat time I had.
I will be going for the Attack based on my Rage ride....cause where I ride the trails have bumps!
I too have been trying to decide APEX or Attack.....

If it is truly 5 mph I'd be suprised. I'd probably guess 2-3 at the most. If they are saying the 06's are 5-6 sled lengths faster in the 1/4 and most of that is likely gained by the quicker throttle response of FI - then the top end is probably 1-2 mph at the quarter and on longer runs may get up to 3.
Will be interesting to see next year when they hit for real.

I raced Oak Hill -Bob last week twice...he has a vector and we started at about a 20mph roll on a railroad grade one day he beat me with a 2-3 mph gain The next day I beat him at exactely the same up to about 90 mph steady pull away from him 2-3 mph?? I had to ask him if he was wide open :? wtf. We did everything the same on the second day as the first ...so if thats any example as to top end...I would say no difference overall with those results.
The push from the long track comes from extra traction NOT extra weight. That is why when you stud a 121" you need to add longer carbides. Seems foolish that guys complain about the extra push of a 136 and then go and stud the crap out of their 121 to accomplish the same thing. Since ski doo released the renegade the 136 has been the sled of choice for most serious riders because of the greater capability. In my opinion the 136 is what the standard snowmobile should have been in the first place. Ask anyone who buys a 136 if they will ever go back to a 121. I will be buying a 2006 ATTAK

Mine rails the corners with a 6" Bergstrom 1/2 bar with shims dont notice anymore push than a 121" track...I dont have studs and dont feel I need them...I have rode in icy conditions and studed sleds 121" have not been able to keep with me in sweepers or twistie turns...so far. And if there is a slight push its not noticable and not worth going with a 121" IMO..the hook up and stutter bump advantage is what I like most also the floatation & boondocking ability is nice! I'd never go with a 121 again I feel a 136" is the best all around best length also.

DITTO. Buying Attak for the same reasons. 136" should be the standard.

Ordering an attak for traction. Had o3 RX-1 and after 7500 miles ,192 warthog studs where all hooked. Warrior had 162 studs (3/grouser) and 7500 miles all are straight. Geared sled to same as RX-1 and hard to notice high gear out of hole. Sled did 124 on gun on 1/4 mile ice track at 10600 rpm dream meter was 132. Set-up right I dont find much of a penalty through corners but when you hit apex of corner and hit the flipper it powers through corner like no shorty can. This 06 Attack will probably see a Turbo in 07.

mclarenyamaha - I have test rode the 06's for more than a lot of people were able too, and also watched the Apex that MrSled drove for 2 weekends, and can say this:
I am a 121 inch guy, thru and thru, but when I rode the Attak, with the new mono 136.......I loved it! I rode 136's before, and they felt like they were pushing in the corners, and along with the 03's, no transfer, unless you really changed something. The rider forwarding position makes it seem like a 121 in the corners, and takes the rough on the straights. Watching the Attak, go around a corner, looks like the rear of an enclosed car trailer, where the rear swings out, instead of the center and rear pushing into the corner. I believe, I made the right choice for a sled.
ATTAK!

I'll second that. I was going to order an Apex but after test riding them I liked the Attak better. I didn't feel the weight difference and it didn't seem to push in the corners. The rear seemed a little squirly on the Apex to me, the Attak would hook up much faster when you hammered the throttle. I also thought it went through the tight twisty trails much better than the Warrior.

Maybe like the older 121's but not like the Apex machines you and I rode when we were there together. In my view, the Apex machines brought back Yamaha's pre-four stroke trademark 3-way steering (Throttle-Brake-Bars). More 'playful' for lack of a better term.NOS-PRO said:The rider forwarding position makes it seem like a 121 in the corners,
The Attak seemed more serious and well behaved to me. I had a serious and well behaved sled last year, wanted a playful one this year and almost popped for the Nytro.
I think we both made the right choice.

and when it comes to performance, acceleration and top end. who is fastest in 400 feet in the real world. i think i am going for the attak. but i like the pull of a shorty. i also love the offtrail performance that you get with the attak. is there a big diffrence in top end and acceleration, have you comperede them side by side out in the field.
