First post, been riding for 35 years, currently have a couple 2 smoke turbos but wanted to get a yamaha before the new ones are gone forever.
Many confusing reports on to tune or not, some say it wont make much difference at elevation, some say just do intake and muffler on stock tune.
I already ordered the sea level weights and rivits to get up around 73 grams of weight.
Climbmax ,Randy had said in a posti found a couple years ago the tunes are way overrated and do not make a huge difference??
If i do tune i have 3 choices. precision, hurricane, TD from my research these are some top places.
How does the factory tune respond to a cold air intake and quite muffler??
I would like a 50hp bump and not be loud!!
2025 mtx 153, not sure if i will need a162 or not??

I installed the cold air intake from CRracing and their 3" exhaust on my sled about 5 years ago. Stock tune, no issues. The 3" exhaust was just way too loud for my liking. I changed it out to a 2-1/2" MBRP trail quiet muffler, its a game changer in the noise level.
I would suggest that you install the CAI and exhaust and ride it for a bit, you will likely decide its enough power. Adding any more power will be great for straight up the mountain runs, not really gonna help anywhere else.

Great news, i just want to make sure its safe to add cold air intake and exhaust to this stock tune.I installed the cold air intake from CRracing and their 3" exhaust on my sled about 5 years ago. Not sure the ecm has the ability to add fuel in any way but looking at the map or boost sensor? in other words i dont think it adjusts fueling like modern cars do by looking at a wide band sensor and making life fuel adjustments. I know some tuning places are adding this feature.
I saw a post climbmax posted about doing this, just add a cai and muffler to the stock tune and they will make all the power you need for climbing hills. I am glad to see randy swensen still riding, i rode with him back in 2006 i think at the big iron shootout. He wont remember but i do lol. Dude was an animal on his turbo yamaha.

Given your name, hpmaniac, you should try a 250+ tuned Sidewinder. Adding a cold air intake and a higher flow muffler can make it too lean, and might need a tune anyway.
I've seen different tunes for different elevations too. The 153" will be plenty, it all comes down to the suspension setup, more pressure on rear shock for steep climbs etc.
I think you will find a noticable difference comparing a stock vs 250hp. Assuming you want the MTX for off-trail?

Yep, 80% of the riding is off trail in washington state.Given your name, hpmaniac, you should try a 250+ tuned Sidewinder. Adding a cold air intake and a higher flow muffler can make it too lean, and might need a tune anyway.

Leaning towards the closed loop tune and dash flash package from either precision or hurricane.
I was very surprised how hard these pull in stock form, more than 180 hp that is for sure.

Picked up the mtx today. I think I did ok on price, 18500 out door at 3.99% and a 4 year warranty.
I've wanted a turbo yamaha for years and finally pulled trigger knowing this is last chance.
Can't wait to do tuning.
Struggling choosing between precision and hurricane lol.
I have a buddy who has had several sidewinder tunes and he felt like power was very close between all the 270hp tunes but said the precision tune felt the smoothest.

What a beautiful machine, pics do no justice, this color looks great on this sled. First yamaha ever, the build quality is second to none. Wow! It makes my polaris look like riding lawn mower build quality haha. Trying to upload pics, says to large

Very interesting. Can you tell us in more detail how much you drove in this tuning, did you have any problems with the engine? I also want to install cai and exhaust. And I also have a standard tincture. But many people here say that you can't install mods without configuring them. Because of this, I'm afraid to install anything for fear of damaging the engine. I do not have the opportunity to do the tuning, I live in another country and we have not developed yamaha tuning.

Anyone have feedback on the auto tune tunes from hurricane or TD?
It's not needed but getting feedback from a wideband can be a advantage for mountain riding for sure. Always wondered why yamaha did not add this feature like most modern cars have and now the latest sea doo watercraft hp models have closed loop tuning.

Just ordered everything from Dave at hurricane.
Trail muffler
Dash flash with 240 and 270 tune.
Auto tune version with wideband closed loop.
Next will be his second add on intercooler.
We talked a bunch about this, even a 270 tune will benefit from intercooler upgrade.

I have a hurricane 270 tune in my MTX, pulls hard on the trail, doesn't pull any harder than stock off trail.
Thought I gained some track speed but upon closer inspection the speedo reads 15ish MPH fast.

Good choice. Never seen a second intercooler mounted, only a bigger one or stock one is moved to top. The 270 will definitely benefit from it. The snow buildup in the front is annoying, I had intake air temps up to 60 C° last ride (as seen on dash).Just ordered everything from Dave at hurricane.

That sounds like pretty bad clutching to me. I can use half throttle and the skis get thrown into the air off trail. I get maybe 70mph track speed in the deep stuff, using Challenger Extreme.Did he have any clutching reccomendations ?

Went with the clutching the dealer reccomended, they still don't have an answer for the speedo being way off. On a stock tune with my 17 MTX 162, with some refined clutching, BTX weights maxed out, and 3-3 on the secondary with stock Helix, I would see 55-58 MPH track speeds, that was with the power claw and the Challenger. That sounds like pretty bad clutching to me. I could Punch it from a dead stop and See 40+MPH track speeds by the time the skis were at eye level....
Not quite getting the same effect now.
