Can anyone really confirm that Ski Doo and the other manufacturers use a greater protrusion of the wheels beleow the hyfax than Yamaha does? I know we all seem to think so. Obviuosly wheel diameter is only half the story. Before I spend money for bigger wheels I'd be interested to know if that is the biggest reason why Yamaha's melt slides before any others. I have had Yamah's for years and don't expect to change anytime soon. But I rarely recommend them to others that I know like to ride roads and in marginal snow. The other brands simply do not have the issues that Yamaha does.

My Ski-Doo XR has no more protrusion than the stock Yamaha, but it has less weight and a full length heat exchanger in the tunnel. Cat also no more protrusion than a Yamaha and it runs heat exchangers right over track windows on the turbo Z1 with as much or more weight to carry around.

I have over 1800 ks on my slides..and they are on my 162.. 2 and a half inch paddles..and the slides are still more than half...my wifes look new..I run them for 20 ks..then stop .kick snow on them..then repeat till I do 100 ks..its like you have to heat them..cool..then repeat..just like metal..they will get stronger..burned my first set 200 ks..but we run scratchers most of the time..cant hurt to try.I put wheels..then took them off..did this heat thing,,no more problems...just have one in the front because of the supercharger..and one under my butt..

Quebec speaks the truth.

2 seasons ago I started the season off with a brand new set of slides. Spent the 1st day doing some serious riding. I had smelled plastic but figured just the new slides. 300 km later I have cooked thru those slides.

I already had the larger wheels on, but decided to add the extra wheel kit after this.

My 1st set of slides lasted the 3500km 07/08 season. That year during the break in I had only done a couple of short trips, with frequent stops & easy running which seemed to set up the slides better.
Start of 08/09 melted the slides right away with a hard day of running. The set on now since the melt down & about 4500 km are still good. Just serviced & they are still good. This longer set was due to easy break in & the much longer durability must also be the addition on te extra wheel kit on my Attak. Happy with my set up now.

The way this season is looking, these slides will easily last this season. Here in the Great White North, in my area we have had 3 major rain storms with 2-4" of rain during each one. NO SNOW on the ground at all. Maybe Santa will bring me some white stuff! :letsnow:
