Hey, I’m new here. I just picked up a used 2015 S-tx-dx with 7100klm on it. I just had it out for a quick run and noticed I lost brake pressure. At the same time I noticed a small puff of smoke coming up from the base of the risers and the dash went out. I turned it off, and back on. It would run, drive and go in reverse but no brakes, no dash & the reverse alarm didn’t work. So I backed it into my garage. Once in the brakes worked again. But, still no dash and no reverse alarm. I know the taillight & dash are on the same fuse, and I haven’t checked that yet but I will shortly. But the brake thing is different. I took the plastics off and don’t see any obvious shorts, but that’s not to say there isn’t any. I did recently take the gas tank off to empty old gas. Is there a electrical component to the brakes? Any help is appreciated. Tx

Brake either works or it doesn’t work, it won’t go in and out of brake pressure.
Just a thought maybe you panicked a bit when you see the smoke and thought you were pressing the leaver but you weren’t.

With the brakes, either there is air in the system or your fluid is way low.
Cant help with the dash, better start with fuse and follow the wiring harness. Hopefully its not mice chewing.

Thanks guys. Def not a panic situation. I was only coasting in my yard. Confirmed it again as I was backing into the garage. So there may be more then 1 issue at play. I’ll get at it again tomorrow and update. Tx guys, and yes hopefully not mice!

FYI for future, go buy a $10 hand transfer pump to remove gas from gas tank instead of removing the tank.

Looks like it was 2 separate issue that coincidentally happened at once. Still have to confirm with a shake down run. I flushed the brake fluid and things seem to be working now. No signs of any leaks. I replaced the taillight fuse which fixed the dash problem. I followed the harness back and didn't see any obvious shorts. There was a bit of chaffing where the harness goes through the tunnel but no signs of a short. I added some tape to protect that area in case that was the problem. The sled had been sitting for a while, just 1 run in the past 2 years, but I can't see why that would affect the brakes. It seemed like there was some water in the fluid which would explain it, but I don't know where it would have got in. With no fluid leaking out, I am thinking there shouldn't be any ongoing faults allowing water in. Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe some contamination got in there when someone had worked on it in the past. All I can do now is take it for a run and monitor it I guess. I did do the fuse block relocation during this though that I saw on this site which worked out slick. 10 minutes & 2 rivets. Time well spent I think.

Take a look where the Brake hose runs down to caliper. Make sure hose isnt being hit by secondary sheave at full shift. Look at any wiring there also.

Thanks Cannondale. I had it out for a good run yesterday in the Highlands here in Cape Breton. About 200k. No issues with the brakes or dash. So all appears well. I’m still cautious of a slow leak though so I’ll definitely check that out.

I did have some noise from my primary though, I’ll start a new thread for that.
