I just reinstalled my chaincase and for some reason the sled will not go into reverse. I adjusted the arms for what felt to be a smoother transition into reverse before putting the cover on. Now that all is back together it wont go into reverse. I am wondering if when I put the cover back on I miss alligned that lever that is inside or if I screwed up the adjustment. I checked my shop manual and it says 1.6" lenght on the shift rods, but man that is long. Do I need to take everything off again or can I do this an easier way? thanks!

that is what I figured... when I put the cover back on what position should the fork be in? up or down?

I just realized I read the numbers wrong on the length on the rods too.. It is 1.06. Now that I have the length right is that supposed to be centered? there is a small nub on the middle of each rod. is that supposed to be centered between the nuts?

The fork has to be in between the two flanges on the large gear. 1.06" between the lock nuts is correct, The rod does not have to have the nub centered, as long as you get the 1.06" between the nuts and it does not fall apart on you. If you get the adjustment dead nuts on, you should have no problems shifting.

Didn't move the lower rod's adjustment did you?

I did a bit but was careful to put the nuts back in the same spot. the manual doesnt specify the distance on the lower. on movement of the reverse handle the final knuckle on bottom hits the chain case like its bottoming out. it doesnt seem to want to go any further, but it stops their. I hope I didnt screw things up major.. I guess the best thing is to take the cover off and see what is going on.

I have had a brain fart several times when doing this. You wont hurt anything but the forks are just dropped down below the reverse gear and won't slide up in the groove. when you have the cover off rotate the linkage so the forks are in the full up position and as you slide the cover over the 2 shafts look in from the top and let the forks slide down in the groove on the reverse gear.
