Not happy with the assembly of my new Viper

I wouldn't say I'm impressed but I'm not disappointed either,it's assembled well but could be a little better, but remember it's already expensive, titanium and hollow bolts add more money but like you said would be way better than the cheap #*$&@ clips they use,I've owned a few cats in the past and this yamaha is the best so far :D the ride and handling make up for a lot of the little things

Anybody thinks this is a bad first year sled did not have a 2007 Phazer.....LOL!

I did, the good ole snow cone maker lol... But I have to say the fit & finish was still far superior to the SR Viper.

But hey, it aint a piano and no one sees fit and finish whey your clicking your heels over a road approach

Dont worry it only made ice like that when the rear suspension wasnt broke. Honestly guys I found something broke in suspension every single weekend I rode it first year. Stuck with Yamaha because they stuck with me. Warranty and updates covered almost every issue the Phazer had back then. Is reason I have so much respect for Yamaha.

The missing fastener count keeps climbing. Last night I went to install my Yamaha skid plate and the instructions said to remove and re-use two T27 bolts from the underside of the sled. Guess what? Yep, my sled did not have these bolts. So today I made my fourth trip to the dealer to obtain fasteners that were forgotten on my new sled.

While I was there I checked all seven of his Vipers on the showroom floor. Five had these bolts and two did not. Who would have ever thought that Yamaha would put their name on something that is put together this poorly! I am certainly not impressed so far with this Arctic Crap assembled Yamaha.

As I stated earlier I have owned eleven new Yamaha sleds over the years and not one of them ever had a missing fastener. So far I have found six missing fasteners. I have attached a picture of the fasteners that were missing. As I said earlier this is completely unacceptable on a $12K sled.

It turns out that the two bolts are not T27's but rather T20's so the skid plate instructions has a typo.

I think you will also find that the seat heater switch being a rocker switch and laying flat will will freze and you cant turn it off. low is hardley noticeable and hot will burn your a$$. And you cant turn it off!!!!!!! Had to stop, remove the seat and unplug a few times.

Pay 12g for a new sled and then have to go thru everything to make sure its right. Obviously this is a major problem.
When there are missing fasteners that are visable. Quality control. Who checked this sled over??
What about the fasteners that are not easily visable??
I would put my warranty to use and haul this back to the dealer and tell them to call me when the sled is right and properly repaired.
I would think Yamaha should get involved here and do some checking.

Non of the later production sleds come with those two "T20's " from what I have noticed or its the MTX's and XTX LE that have those 2 bolts missing. We have a earlier built SE that has the bolts and a late build LE that does not have them. I noticed the same on the dealer floor as well. A friend of mine(zampinator) has a XTX LE and he is missing those also. A.C. changed specs at some point and said we don't need it! And really those 2 bolts don't do anything so I can see why they left them out, think of it as a weight savings. You can see the pictures in my album a few months ago where I took pictures of both, one with and one without.

I am not sure about the other fastens on your sled but at least these two T20's should be missing.

So change the score card and give one point back to Yamaha quality control.:bash:

Please warranty it. Every screw anything. It's the only way they know something like this has happened.

While i agree with you that yamaha and cat both need to know about these types of issues.
There should be an easier way then hauling a sled back to the dealer.
For a guy like me, i live in massachusetts and ride in maine. I bought where i ride because the dealers are more knowledgable with sleds, but that means a 160 mile ride each way. Its just not feasable to drop it off for the little things. It cost me a full tank of gas and 5 hours of travel.
And yes i could have it serviced locally but i wont because i want it done correctly and that will not happen locally. Been there done that.

Maybe contact a dealer rep?
I would hope there is some sort of log tracking system in place for simple quality complaints

The two bolts in question are actually T20's even though the skid plate installation instructions call them T27's.

If Yamaha decided to leave these bolts out then they need to change the skid plate installation instructions and include these bolts with the skid plate.

My MTX LE didn't come with the gold 5mm machine screws (bolt) either, but my brother's '14 CAT M8000 did.

Sorry to hear about all the hassle with this sled. I bought a pair of new 14's last year and one came glitch free and the other came with loose hose clamps and an antifreeze leak out of the crate, a bulk head screw only half threaded in and when I went through the sled, I found a couple what looked like body panel screws in the belly pan area but no missing screws that I could find so that probably meant they dropped them in during assembly and instead of fishing them out, they just zipped a couple more in. Other than that, it appears I have been pretty lucky as both sleds ran good (minus a couple hot start issues), never left me stranded, nothing broke or came loose during the first year. I went through the sleds this year before the season started and all looks good so far. Time will tell if these things will hold up over time. So far I'm happy with the purchase and I've come to the conclusion nothing is perfect so as long as I can correct the small issues myself and not have further issues and not have to bug the dealer all the time, I guess I will have to be happy with that or not ride anymore which is unacceptable. Snowmobiling is my personal crack addiction lol. Here's to another trouble free year!(hopefully)
