Started up the 03 rx1 could tell it was not hitting on all four. Unpluged the pigtail at coils and #1 and #3 motor would stop. unpluged #2 and #4 and no change in motor. Swapped two coils from another sled and still no change any ideas

2&4

take the coils off 1&3 & plug them into 2&4 pull the plugs out & put them in the coils & lay them on the coolant tube on top of motor, turn the motor over to see if they are firing if not play with the wire plug down under the tool box not the one at the front under the front nose cone but the one that bolts to the battery holder I think its the cdi. I just had this happen to my 05 rx-1 but only #2 wasn't firing I switched coils still nothing played with wire's then worked fine Hope this helps

No compression on cyl 2 and 4 due to rusted intake or exhaust valves, can happen. Do a compression test to rule it out.

I have seen that happen to a friends '06 Apex RTX, he lost compression and the sled would not start. He had to get his valves polished to get them to seat properly.

Brought home the compression gauge but did'nt have the right adaptor. When I pulled the plugs out 1,2 and 3 were black but #4 looked like brand new.

Liquids does that, it's possible that the #4 carb has a stuck float needle or something. Coolant leaking into the motor will do the same. Or riding on 3 cylingders with the #4 not fireing for some time, pistons washed nice and clean.
Or maybe none of the above :)
