I am certainly not new to Yamaha (Vipers, SRX's, currently own Apex RTX). I just picked up a 2007 Phazer FX for my wife and thought I would do some maintenance; such as changing the chain case oil. I cannot find the drain plug on the back of the chain case like on the rest of my sleds. Is there one and I just cannot see it?
Also, the sled seem to hesitate on starting up, is this normal for a Phazer. I completely charged the battery and still same problem.

on the start up. how cold is it out? there are service bullitens that can be performed as well as safety recalls on that sled. 1)steering nut and cotter pin and snow plate recall. 2) ball joint retorque and loctited recall.
3) cold weather start up bulliten. replaces the springs on the cam decompressor as well as the ecm. 4)you can also get yammie to give you the 08 side plates for the seat on a bulliten.
i cant remember the chaincase offhand. is it on the front bottom cover. remove the lower side panelling. i think youll see it.

Take off the side covers. Theres a 10mm drain bolt on bottom of chaincase. At least that's where it's at on my Venture Lite.
Normal for the Phazers to start after 12 or 15 cranks. If the cold weather start up recall was done the sled should start in 4 to 8 cranks.
How many cranks for your sled to start?
Always let the sled come to idle rpm before shutting off. Aparently they can flood if not.

I thought I had an isue also , spoke to the dealer up north today ,they told me the phazer will not fireup until the oil pressure is up . 10-15 times rolling over is normal .

Thanks for all your help. Again not new to Yamaha, did chain case on Viper, SRX and buddy's Apex. I will take a look at the Phazer with fresh eyes.
As for the starting, does not seem to matter on the temperature. Slight hestitation, imagine bad battery; one or two weak cranks then next 3-4 strong and fires up. My Apex is strong from first crank. I have a very good charger, full cycle last night and still same hestitation this morning, maybe just this sled.
The sled was originally from the USA and tranferred to Canada. I beleive the updates were done, but I will ask my dealer to confirm.
Now if I can just fix the pushing in the corner of my Apex, I would be a happy man

they have a recall on the hard start issue. i had mine done. theyve had my sled all season long back and forth for starter and ball joints, its getting old imo. so much for jap quality.

DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE RIVETS ON THE AIRBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... get them checked this is the most important thing.... ever
