While out last weekend, went to start the Nytro and somethign clicked then saw a littl epuff of smoke...assumed it was a fuse taking a crap...but then the sled turned over...

started her up (didnt want to start) but then pulled it in garage...did some work on it last night, and now it just clicks, right down by the fuses in fron tof oil tank, and wont turn over...

checked the three fuses I can see there, the 40a one appears fine, the 10a one is fine, and the other one appears fine...

any ideas?

My understanding is that the starter relay is failing on the Nytros. All that POW your riding in probably took it over the edge. Try jumping the relay with a screwdriver.
My cousins 08 MTX started failing with less then 500 miles on it.

I had the same problem on my VL and they replaced something - solenoid maybe? Now it works fine. But I could start mine in a pinch with a screwdriver across two screws (contacts/leads?) on the battery (it is explained better on here somewhere). I guess by doing that you bypass something or other and she'll crank over with the key turned on to cycle the fuel pump. Funny thing that once it warmed up it worked good all day - but left over night it had to be jumped again. i'm sure someone can explain that phenomenon.
BTW, did you go through some deep snow and possibly get moisture in there?

solenoid

My solenoid went last weekend, do you have any codes flashing when you turn the key to the on position? Had to jump mine as described above. Dealer put a new one in and good as new. Cose 12 was flashing on mine which is misleading as that in the crank position sensor code.

Definitly starter relay i had same problem a couple weeks ago had to use my pocket knife to jumpstart it. Called the dealer and he sent me the relay on warranty he said the have replaced a lot of them.

Yep, simple as starter relay! Cheap fix! Put di-electric grease on the new relay and the connector before you install! Some guys have put some home made rubber covers over those relays to keep the moisture out!

I had the same issue .... pulled mine off and took it in the house for 1/2 hour to "defrost" to see if that was the prob.......... once the sled was warm, I had no further issues. di-E grease is a must to keep that moisture out ...... who would have thought .. moisture and a sled?

anyone have a pic of a home-made guard? I'm gonna try to rig something up ....

thanks guys...will call dealer and see if they got it done yet...and yes, it was Code 12 CrankPosition sensor...

I got the Code 12 earlier this season with the click no start, turns out I had left the key on with the kill switch off and managed to discharge my battery while I was taking an extended break in a play area. Turn the key on, everything lights up, and Code 12 would light up. Try to turn it over, clicking and the lights go out, like there was a short.

Once I got the battery charged up code 12 up and disappeared. I replaced the relay at the same time just to be safe, it was pretty corroded when I took it out. Now I carry and extra one in my pack and jumpers just in case I space out and leave my key on. Doh!

Never hurts to be prepared man! Good idea to carry some extras! That's exacty was I do. I carry two of the front relays & a starter relay with me in my pack! They're inexpensive and can save a big headache in a pinch!

anyone have part numbers on the relays? and ther are two different ones I have to think about?

starter relay is 3el-81940-00 could be swapped for suffix 00-04 (updated relay). they all look the same, and serve the same function but have a different suffix for part number supersession.
