Just wondering how big of a job it is to replace pistons in my Nytro? I've had the engine out before to install the head shim and that wasn't too bad. Just wonder what else has to be removed from the engine at minimum?

Thanks
NB

Going to do a leak down test this week to see if I have any problems.
I might need to change the head gasket/shim cause last season I was loosing antifreeze and wondering while I'm at it if its worthwhile doing the pistons at the same time. Or just goto low compression pistons and do away with the head shim.

i have a leakdown tester if you need it pete. if you use lc pistons your still not deto safe you need to have a real good tune to run max boost on pump gas, it happens real quick. dont push it cuz bad things happen. Talk to the dave at hurricane about your limits with your set up. I now know on my sled and i have the lc pistons.

Dave,

I did go with ARP studs when I did the MCX head shim, but I still had a leak.
This was done by splitting a stock head gasket and sandwiching the shim. Is there a better way to get the head shim to seal? I was thinking a thiner shine and using 2 gaskets.

Thanks

The MCX shim is ok to use.We like to spray a light coat of copper coat on the shim. The we will also split the gasket.Check that the deck on the block is flat as well as the head. Then re locktight the head studs into the block and torque the head to 55lbs torque using molly lube on the nuts.It will seal until detonation rattles it

Thanks Dave,

Just I'm your opinion which is better an aluminum shim or a stainless steel shim?
Just wondering if I should reuse my old one or install a new one?

The engine will have to be removed from the sled.
The engine will have to come completely apart.
To get the pistons out you will have to disconnect the connection rods from the crank shaft.
