There's a 1/2" gap between the tunnel and the exhaust shield along it's length. Plus the header is still exposed near the front of the tunnel. My objective was is to reduce the amount of snow hitting the exhaust, vaporizing and then re-freezing on the tunnel. The shorter shield I used last year did a decent job of reducing the ice build-up. On the theory that bigger is better, I've increased the length and added the gap. I don't see heat being an issue as there's plenty of venting.
The ceramic coating is just to reduce the oxidation of the stainless and provide a little more life to the flex joints and header. Those pipes will still be hot.
Do the mountain skis use a different bushing set than the trail ski?
