Ohlins Monoshock YES Warranty

I tried the search and exhausted all efforts.

Does anyone know if the extended YES warranty covers the rear electric monoshock? I read over the warranty Declaration and no where does it state that shocks are not covered under warranty. I currently have my 2007 Apex GT into the dealer here in north central Wisconsin for the second time for the same problem with the monoshock (sled keeps bottoming out), and the dealer is telling me that someone cut the wire and used electrical tape to repair it and I need to spend $800.00 to have this issue fixed.

I have a record of requesting for a repair 500 miles ago at the same dealer and explained that I thought the shock was leaking as the work order states "inspected shock could not find leak". I am beyond frustrated with both the dealer and my Apex.

Thank you for your feedback and what direction you guys would recommend I take from here.

Neither the Yamaha regular warranty or the extended Yes warranty does not cover the new Mega shock on the 2011 & newer Yamaha Apex SE. Mine shock has been leaking since day one, and they will not cover it. Because of that my Next new sled will probably be a Polaris. Sure hope the New York Totally Yamaha rides I started years ago, still lets me ride with them on a Polaris

When it comes to warranty it all comes down to what the dealer tells yamaha what went wrong an how the dealer will go to bat for you.

So I went to visit the dealer today and the rear skid was out of the sled. I was informed that the wire to the rear shock was just nicked (not cut and electrical taped back together) like I was informed yesterday. I noticed on the TSB That there is electrical tape from the factory surrounding the plug on the Ohlins so perhaps that is where the confusion was?????

The technician/owner went onto inform me that my Plug and Play Yamaheater, which has been running on my sled since a week after I purchased the Apex new, is interfering with the rear shock electronic adjustment. I explained that the gauge cluster and handlebar control has never been problematic and when switching back and forth between hand warmers, and rear shock adjustment on the gauge everything works perfectly fine. I went onto say that I visit this forum often (as well as others) and havent read any negative feedback or problems associated with installing a Yamaheater anywhere and was told the "dont always believe what you read on the internet"

The owner stated they refuse to install Yamaheater as he has had numerous sleds in the shop with problems from these heaters. I find this odd in that a good number of Yamaha dealers carry and install these heaters, and the company has an exemplary reputation on every forum I read. I was left with the dealer needs to disconnect the Yamaheater, and check to see if everything works properly, but I could well need a new handle bar controller or even an $800.00 ECU?

I was seriously considering selling my 07 for a new 2013 Apex to support my local dealer, but I can honestly say that I will have a hard time supporting Yamaha period moving forward. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Anything is possible but my Yamaha dealer sells and installs Yamaheaters. The Yamaha GT Ohlins is just a POS, IMO. might as well get an ER shock valve it right and Fawk that EC.

Why would the wire be $800 to fix anyway? My EC wire has survived 2 hard seasons now (well hope this one isn't over yet). Look for the diagram and just zip tie the hell out of it. There is also some info hidden here in TY4S about changing the EC to a knob on the shock - less convenient, more durable.

Your dealer sounds like he thinks the money to fix it is coming out of his pocket, id find another dealer. The broken wires are a known problem, blaming it on something else is crazy, do they sell Arctic Cat as well? Because it sounds alot like the Cat Care(cat dont care) warranty.

Your dealer has NO idea what he is talking about.
Would definitely find another dealer.

They know the Grips and the shock are controlled by the same switch.
However, what they do NOT know is the your Yamaheater is not even connected to the switch!
Your YamaHeater has NOTHING to do with the switch at all!
It is controlled ONLY by the ECU grip output and doesn't even put a load on the ECU.

Lol, way funny.
Except for one thing, they have YOUR sled!!!
Honestly, would warn others about the dealer.

Have seen the same kind of "I don't understand it, so I'm blaming the owner or the thing I don't know" attitude from some dealers here.
I won't use them for that reason.
Technical capability & a sign outside, aren't the same thing unfortunately.

Go to someone capable, like Port Yamaha, or another dealer of stature.

Wow...

PS If I can help in any way, let me know!

Thank you for the replies, and my sentiments are the same. If the dealer wasn't literally a drive across the frozen lake from where I store my sled I would take it elsewhere.

I also forgot to mention that the Yamahaheater has apparently voided my YES warranty according to the dealer so any work on the shock to investigate, R&R and repair any issues is out of my pocket! I left it with the dealer as unplug the heater, test the shock operation and button it up so I can come and pick up the sled.

When will Yamaha and their respective dealers realize (like the automotive industry has finally embraced in the last few years) that when you take care of and support the hard working people who purchase your products and support your company that they will come back time and time again as loyal consumers.

Very frustrating to say the least.

You need to get your sled out of that dealer ASAP. I would call port Yamaha and Ask them if this should void you warranty in any way. I asked my dealer in IL if adding a fuel controller would affect YES. He told me it would not. With that said I feel like the owner and service manager are good friends at this point. I'm always picking up parts for my older yami's. call Port Yamaha so your old dealer can't use the "you shouldn't believe what you hear on Internet" excuse. Good luck. This is a bunch of un needed BS that your old dealer caused!

Wow, I am glad that I have a dealer who looks out for me and has gone to bat for me on YES claims that I never thought would be possible (like the new seat cover that he installed literally on the last day of my coverage).

Find a new dealer! YES should cover the electrical part of the EC shock and as Rock said, the Yamaheater has nothing to do with the EC circuit.

My EC shock electronics and my Yamaheater have both worked great for me for years now.

Thanks for the suggestions and I came to the same realization yesterday after stopping by and chatting with the dealer that I need to just pay the bill and put this behind me.

I actually purchased the sled new from Port Yamaha back in 2009 and the sled has just over 4680 miles on the odometer. I will give Port a call Monday after I retrieve my sled. Its a shame PY is literally three hours away from me or I would only take it there for service and warranty work. I have purchased a ton of gear and parts from Port Yamaha for my old SRX 700 and now Apex.

I am going to put the Apex up for sale after this season. I really love the Apex GT and have invested several thousand dollars in proper service and maintenance, clutch kit, studs, windscreen, air box cover, wheels, slides, triple points, custom black metallic paint and custom chrome graphics, etc. I can only hope someone will appreciate it as much as I have.

My bumper crack on my rear shock and wire was broken. Yamaha gave me a new shock, spring and wire without question. The problem is not Yamaha but that loser dealer
