Sled comes with full synthetic from factory, so I kept it the same.
You re gonna have to remove exhaust to make it easier to access oil plug and check chaincase tension.(my chain needed adjustment.) May as well upgrade exhaust bolts as eventually they will strip. I removed exhaust several times without issue....500 mile service, 2 stripped out. Luckily, I was able to remove and retap, but some guys have had them break inside turbo $$$$$$.

I also would like to know more about the oil. I read that 0w30 semi synthetic or 0w40 full synthetic. I've been using full synthetic Mobil 1 European formula 0w40 in my 1200 Doos and was hoping to use the same in this sled.

Mechanic at my dealer told me sled left factory with 0w40 full synthetic, so I put same.
In my apexes, full synthetic would spin 200 rpm more than semi synthetic, so worth the extra $$$....just my opinion however.

Owners manual, page 3, recommended engine oil, Semi-synthetic 0-30 , Yamalube flavor of course. Haven't decided what I will use when time comes.

I just went to my dealer and asked them to set me up with oil change.
Why not, great % off on all I have bought or ordered! This dealer has always had best prices on Yamaha stuff but since the purchase of new sled it is really good pricing.
Anyways they set me up with o/30 semisynthetic and the yami filter pictured in this post.
I was warned about the o ring on this style oil filter, they are known to stay on motor when spinning the filter off, and if not caught, it causes big problems!
Will have to go to NAPA for drain plug o ring if needed, Yamaha still has not set up dealers with micro fish!
I wonder if Cat would have it?

Huh I was told 4.2 quarts. I did question that whereas the 4 holers only used a bit over 3.
Shall find out when I change it in a while. Don't have the 500 miles yet.
Also, never heard of an oil change kit! Something you get at your local Yamaha shop?

shall get aViper o ring and let them know it fits the Sidewinder! Thanks for the info.
I say this Sidewinder/ Viper interchange does not work on a bunch of things so far, so I am critical. Windshields from powermadd, snow trackers and even Yamaha windshields are a problem to get. Really makes me wonder about this Cat/ Yamaha relationship. Have never seen Yamaha quite like this, they are behind the 8 ball on Sidewinder parts and accessories!

Yes there available at your Yamaha dealer, did my oil change and filter # matched, drain plug rubber O-ring fit properly, make sure the old oil filter gasket comes off with old filter. And I don't beilieve 4.4 litres or whatever is correct, I started with 3.8ltrs and was way too much thinking at least 4ltrs would fit and had to suck some out. Yes I did drain oil tank, installed new filter and drained oil pan (bottom of motor drain plug) oh ya that copper gasket/washer is also included in the kit with a few more goodies.

Just did my 500 mile oil change and once its all drained you add 3 quarts to the oil tank and then start it up. I let it idle until warm and then turned it off. Once it cooled down I had to add another 1/2 quart to get it to the top off fill line.Huh I was told 4.2 quarts. I did question that whereas the 4 holers only used a bit over 3.
