Well, is it just me who thinks that Alatalo has a point here?
I have absolutely no idea how much a Framfilter/Napa/Wix/Whatever is in your nearest shop, but I do know that I would be happy to buy OEM Yamaha at just this thing. (Please note: at just this thing)
If the difference so would be 20$, it would be a cheap price to pay to get a good nights sleep-for me.
Even if for ex. a Napa would fit right on, have the exact outer dimentions and look the same as OEM-who knows how it looks inside?
For a couple of years ago a Swedish carmagazine took a test on the market of oilfilters for cars: They did a flowtest, mesaured how mutch filtration it did, cut them up to look at the inside and everything was done to find out any differences with OEM for the brand of the car. (dont remember the brand, but that dont matter in my eyes.)
They came to the conclution that the pricetag didnt have anything to do with function. If I remember right oue of the cheapest came very close to OEM, one of the most expensive was actually performing as good as OEM but had better flow through the filter-but was advertised as an "racing" item for tuned engines.
The overall conclusion was that the OEM did its job. Some of the aftermarket did not. The pricetag couldnt tell the difference, their were some aftermarket that performed well-but it took a lab.test to find out witch one...
I go for safety in this matter. If the engine brake down due to lack of filtration, I couldnt forgive myself for the cost of mayby a total save of 80$ in tree-four years.
Just my 0.5c.
Edit: Spelling
