i have 2 - 2015 vipers. I did oil change and chain case service today. One sled has a sight glass for chain case and engine oil, 3.5 quarts brings 2/3 of the way up the sight glass for engine.
The other sled with dipstick, 3.5 quarts barely touches dipstick. 4 quarts will bring it just above the min. Mark on dipstick. This is screwed in and after I put 3 quarts in and started it, then added little at a time and kept checking. I think the stick is wrong.
Chaincase holds 12 oz. brings it 2/3 up the sight glass.

The sled with the dip stick is supposed to have more oil . This sounds right what you're seeing.

The sled has to be warmed up till the fan comes on (91 degree c) before you read the dipstick.
And yes it makes a difference.

I'll let it run tomorrow like you say and try reading it again. I'm still waiting for the repair manual to show up. I would think it would shed some light on some of this. Strange they switched methods of checking oil mid year. The sled has to be warmed up till the fan comes on (91 degree c) before you read the dipstick.

I measured what I drained out of both sleds, both had about 3 1/2 quarts for engine oil. I think the one sled with dipstick probably is a little on the full side but only 1/4 of a quart

My '15 Viper LTX LE has the dipstick and it came with a seperate page of specs and it states that the oil capacity is 4.1 quarts. My wifes '15 LTX DX has the sight glass.

Without actually taking the oil tank apart and laying the 2 side by side, I think they are the same. The one with the dip stick has a spot where the sight glass would go, you can see the round circle in the metal, just no hole. If you look in the top where you fill them, they look the same inside, at least from looking in through the hole. They look identical, it is a mystery why the 2 sleds would take different amounts of oil. They are essentially the same motor, same sled.Bigger tank to handle four cylinder?

It's no longer a mystery. The tanks are identical in volume side by side but the new style tank is just filled to a higher level , Read this old post for all the info you're asking for:

To clarify , the new tank uses 4.4qt if you have the dip stick.
The sight glass tank uses 4.1qt.

I stand corrected. I wonder why they added 0.3 qts? And will that make a difference.

The purpose for the extra oil and the baffle is for the off trail guys so the sled has more oil when the sled is on its side and the baffle helps keep the oil in the bottom of the tank where its needed.
