I know the chaincase was updated on the 15.5's. Looks like all different shocks on 16's so thats good.

Is it still a cat chaincase?
Yes but they made the tabs thicker so they dont break off so easily.

What are the tabs? Are these what are causing some chaincases to grenade?

mounting tabs on some were cracking. Not all of us have chaincase issues. Mine worked flawless before and after the update.
5400mi on mine and only issue was a bad actuator and wore out top gear last year.Fixed under warranty.

I'm still a little confused on what these mounting tabs are...
Its the tabs where all the bolts go that hold the chaincase cover on.

Oh ok, thanks. So I'm guessing if the tabs break off, the cover will fall off causing a wonderful mess...
Here you go. This is a updated cover.

I would like to know what updates have been done as well. Never seen this post as I asked the same questions in another post.
I don't know. The ones I have seen look just like starters Yamaha has had forever. Same markings. May have just had a bad batch. I believe the trick is to just get on sled hold the brake and turn the key to start. Don't wait for pump just crank that sucker till it starts. I would say to a ten count if needed then give it a break. Show it who's boss don't be tentative with the key crank and hold till it idling fully. This prevents that kickback which can wreck gear or starter.
