Phazer Build

I'll let you know once I get a decent tune on it ;)!
Update: Did some tuning tonight, afr seems to be down to 13-15 still really high, the plugs are white. I added .9 ms on the top half of the map and will try + 1.0 ms tomorrow. I can't get the data logging to work so I'm not sure how well I'll be able to get it tuned. :o|

i just got a 07 phazer mnt lite mcxpress and dose any one no how to turn up the boost. i am only getting about 3lbs.

You adjust it via the rod on the pcv that connects to your wastegate. If you actually are getting just 3 psi boost I would look for problems if the pcv rod is set stock. Did you build the sled or buy it built? If you bought it built did you test ride it? Was it boosting then? If it wasn't what did the seller say about it?

Check your exhaust for holes. I just about burnt mine down the other day. Was only making about 130 kpa af manifold pressure instead of 230 kpa so I knew something was wrong. About 20 minutes longer and I am sure it would have blown a hole through the last aluminum plate below the fuel tank and then ka-boom. I have also had to replace the doughnut gaskets just before the expansion joint every season as they get destroyed frequently.

On my 07 the last plate under the tank is steel.Maybe they changed to aluminum in later models?

Front hole is open. Had exhaust wrapped until it fell off. Going to build proper turbo exhaust. Been looking at the Burns Stainless website and holy crap that stuff is expensive but I guess if it lasts it will be worth it. When I look close there is hardly a weld on the stock pipe that is not cracked. Don't want to patch every season.

I hear yah on the cracking, I've had to fix mine too. What setup are you running ie. boost, headshim vs stock, fuel? What do you see for afr at idle, wot, cruising etc? What are you running as far as mapping?

head shim, 15 psi at 3000 feet, straight av gas, lambda is about .9-.95 at idle and about .8 at wot, stock mapping. Head shim is coming out next year and going to run 15 psi with Q-16 race fuel. The reason I use lambda is it doesn't change with different fuels like afr does.

GREAT Post

I'm currently an Apex MT owner with the majority of mods minus boost...I'm considering going to a Phazer MTX 151 with all the goodies and MCX boost. I know you can get over alot of the lag with clutching but how do they compare to other sleds in the deep and steep? I.E. how does 10 lbs no head shim compare to a stock REV or a stock Apex/Nytro? How does the 15 lbs head shim or not compare to an XP or M8....curious on your real world comparisons to other machines you've ridden.
thanks for the good post, enjoyed reading it!

@backcountry No luck yet but I have a new box (3rd one) to try just no time for a while here.

@juice Pretty hard to compare these sleds to the 2 smokers. The lag is hardly noticeable other than dragging ie punching it from idle, once you get moving it pulls pretty hard and will pull more track speed while climbing. The suspension and chassis construction/quality on the phazers is terrible. If you ride it at all, you will need timbersled or other aftermarket suspension front and back. There is lots of chassis flex, exhaust issues, weak steering and other issues to deal with. Personally I love the handling of my phazer and can't seem to buy anything else not to mention this thing costs so much I can't afford anything else.

The Phazer will have more power at elevation than either of the 2 strokes. I agree the rear skid is garbage but who rides an unmodified sled anyway. The only comparisons I have to give is an 800 Rev with a 151 16 wide track against my Phazer with head shim and 15 pounds of boost at about 3000 feet elevation and a 151 14 wide. Well, it wasn't much of a comperison because he couldn't come close to my mark even when he hit the the hill at 60 or 70 mph and I idled to the bottom. My bro also has an M7 with y-pipe, single and stinger with some clutch work and a 162. The only time he can beat me is if it snowed 2 feet the night before. The turbo horsepower more than makes up for a little lag. I weigh about 240 geared up for a ride so I am no light weight. The other nice thing about the Phazer is no need to pack gas. I get about 60 miles to my 8 gallons in mountain riding conditions where comparible 2 strokes will use about 50% more fuel. Not having 2.5-5 gallons of fuel hanging out on the tunnel makes quit a difference.
