Has anyone noticed that there is no "3000" series engine in a Cat this year? The 570 fan is a "2000" and the 500 L/C is a "4000" so why did they skip 3000? Hmm...

A Phazer engine in a ProCross for 2016? Remember when Yamaha registered the SR Viper name they also registered SR Venom and nothing has been done with that trademark. I guess we will see if my predictions are right or not in about a year.

i bet they throw a curveball and throw a new, slightly smaller crossplane crank triple into something and use up the SR Venom name. the engine in the FZ-09 motorcycle is what im guessing they are working with

You must have been reading my mind and beat me to that post. I have been looking at the 4000 RR and noticed they had a 2000 but no 3000.

I think you are on to something regarding what the "3000" engine is going to be, but unless they can do something with the price I don't think they will see sales. Phazer RTX is 8,600 this year with FLOAT shocks and 4000 RR is 9,200 with EVOL X and racing skid in the rear. If they could make the "3000 RR" for the same money they might have a winner.

I could see that, if yamaha is working on their own unified chassis. I don't know if anyone would buy a lower HP triple that weighs the same though, any cost to build wouldn't be any cheaper. I also have a hunch that the Procross chassis with a phazer motor would probibly weigh more than the phazer does. I'd like to see a clean sheet twin in the 800-900cc range that makes 100hp with no gear reduction as I know yamaha could do it. A nytro based "twin" would be 700cc and 90hp/60tq (phazer 80hp/55tq at the shaft) a little bore and stroke and it scales up to an 800 that makes 102hp/68tq which would be a very nice mill.

that new crossplane crank triple is actually very light (at least the one in the FZ-09 motorcycle is) and i believe the new generation r1 with the crossplane crank is slightly lighter than the previous generation engines it had.

A 100 HP 4 stroke is too close to their existing engine and besides it wouldn't fit in to their existing nomenclature. In order to be a "3000" it would need to be less than 85 HP.

9000 - 177HP 4 stroke
8000 - 160HP 2 stroke
7000 - 135HP 4 stroke
6000 - 125HP 2 stroke
5000 - 125HP 4 stroke
4000 - 85HP 2 stroke
3000 - ??HP (4 stroke would keep the pattern)
2000 - 570 Fan 2 stroke

Arctic Cat may have a problem putting the Phazer engine in the Pro Cross chassis because it would directly compete with their "4000" in the racing world. XC has the 85HP class that both Phazer and SnoPro 500/4000 RR could run in.
