last weekend we did 150 kms on my 2007 phazer base model.. fanatastic
This Saturday we did 100kms of also great riding
Saturday night was cold (-26C), so we waited till it hit -14C before start up.
After starting, the red underheat light went off. We then let it idlke a further +-minutes until the sled idled down to 1750 rpm

I then started, and drove approx 1/4 mile' and it sounded perfect, and then all of a sudden crunching metal noises and stop from engine.

Retracing my track, i noticed that from 100' till 300' all of the oil drained from somewhere on the machine, and 600' later...boom.

I did not have time and tools to tear down the sled to find out why this happened

Has anyone experienced of heard about such a thing happening?

ouch, i have seen leaks on cars from the oil pressure sender.. i dont know if the phazer one is made the same way.

First off this is terrible.I dont know what I would do if something like this happened.

Sorry to hear about the egine.

my low temp light is red, low oil level and pressure is the yellow triangle and a code (pressure) or flashing oil can(level). Red would grab my attention faster then yellow does.

please let us know what you find the cause to be. Hose, filter, oil tank itself?

That is terrible. Not something we hear about a lot of here.

Doesn't the engine shut off automatically on loss of oil pressure? As far as the warning lights go, I don't look at my guages while riding, I look at the trail and would not notice a light coming on, especially during daylight. There should be a really loud buzzer for that and the temp to grab your attention.

There is a RED light on when you start it when it is cold. Yellow light shows up when there is and engine problem, or the gas is low.

The dealer will not have chance to look at till wednesday, but from the sounds of crushing marbles, I expect the whole motor is finished.

I loved the phazer. it was quick and fun. I could lead the pack of Revs and Rev Xps.

This year I had installed new wheels and wheel bearings, new suspension bearings, jackshaft bearing, driveshaft bearing, red locktited the starter, installed new sliders, wearbars, medium height windshield, and fan.

Too much love has been provided to the Phazer to let it die.

Does anyoe have a good full motor that they would sell, as I suspect a new motor would not be possible for me.

do you know how to negotiate this website to find LANEO or Hibsman 25?
Thanks

Cold start light is red.Sorry about that not sure what I was thinking.Maybe it was just the gear reduction that went? That could be fixable and could match what happened.

I think the reduction gear issue in the 07 models was an engine case issue on the block where the bearing goes. The easiest way to check that is take the clutch cover off and belt guard. Throttle sled until primary clutch engages and see if primary clutch moves towards secondary it is very noticable with the eye to see. When I discovered my 07 MTX doing it I was at least able to save it from blowing up sorry for your loss.

This one it was the gears that went.Possibly the bearing bores were machined to close causing to tight of clearance between the gears but the bearings were still fine.Any piece of the gears could easily cause a hole in case cover leading to loss of oil.Hole should be evident.

Pics would be nice especially since these are your first posts Ratman.I am sure you understand that some people come on here and post stuff like this just to scare people. If thats not the case I apologize but a pic would be nice.

From the conditions you described, I think the crankcase vent in the airbox froze over. When this happens, oil starts pumping out the vent hose slit. This happened to me on my 06 nytro after a cold night ride and morning start up. My brother drove it for roughly 1/4 mile, parked it and noticed oil pouring from the belly pan. Just luck that he stopped and we noticed it before the engine went boom.
