Phazer Motor Teardown

Sleeves? You know the cylinders are part of block? If you want this set for experimenting just pay shipping. Both front motor mounts are cracked but could be repaired pretty easily.I talked to a guy I know at Millenium he didnt want to attempt anything more than a standard over bore.

I have collected this post in a sticky post "Phazer FX Engine Teardown" because of the good info and pics it contains. Please continue to add more info to the post.

cannondale27 - Thanks for sharing :)

Cool.Thanks.Still didnt get head back yet.Cylinders were sent out to a member Fnengineer for his experimenting with stroker crank. This year should be interesting!

Thanks Cannondale for taking your time doing this!!! :pics: The gear reduction on my motor looked almost identical after it failed on my sled, from what the dealer told me the gears had too close tolerances (very rare problem). Glad I had the 3 year warranty, yamaha covered it in full. :rocks:

Yellowknife had some bolts back out of his counterbalancer bearing he said.Led to his motor going down.I believe these are the bolts. When I took these out they were very, very tight and Loctited so maybe his was just a fluke.

Nice work, just seeing this now. I was able to look at my engine in pieces, but even so I can't be sure what parts backed out, it was all greek to me when the mechanic was showing me, but I think you're right. I'm also hoping it is fluke, i'll be holding onto this little Phazer for at least another season.

No.He has one for a quad I am doing also and is going to ship them both at same time. His work is worth the wait.

I'm very excited to hear the results. Ive got a local machinist who is a porting whiz and Im debating on letting him take a wack at mine. There HAS to be some results. Ive (we've) got 5 months (ish) till sled use time!!!
I AM counting the days!!!

I am building up another quad but once thats done I plan on starting on the Phazer.I will for sure get it dynoed.Should really get a baseline.

Sled is still at Aaen for exhaust and head is still on shelf.Busy as heck.Still planning the swap before snow flies though.

Do you think you will have to pull the engine from the chassis to change the head?

Otter

A Yamaha Mechanic told me its much easier to do it on the bench than in the sled.
