2008 phazer mtx 1300 miles. Phazer tops out at 60mph. Bought the sled last year with 1000 miles was completely stock besides tunnel close off kit. I added a aaen pipe before I really road it took it out a few times and was seeing. 80-85mph on the speedo. I install schmitds bros stage two mtx clutch kit, air box pods, and a power commander 5 and the sled starts topping out at 60 and doesn't wanna pull any higher. I assumed I put the secondary spring in the wrong potions so I removed both clutch sent them to schmitds bro had him do the primary overdriving and put secondary spring back to b-1. Assuming this clutching would fix the top end problem I purchased a 1.5 freeride track and some 9 tooth anti ratchet drive wheels and installed well clutches were out. Got clutches bak same thing 60 mph. Removed a little wieght from primary to get rpms at 11.5 tried secondary in a couple spots nothing. so I took the stock primary and secondary off a buddies phazer gt so it was all stock clutching and still 60. Unplugged power commander with both clutches and that seemed to have no effect. The motor sounds like its running good and I don't have any lights on.

I just don't understand how I was hitting 80-85 with just the pipe but now can't get it over 60..62. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

Yea maybe 11700. A third of the way across the field ill b up to 60 and it will stay right at 11700 and wont raise above 60 mph the rest of the way. I had the stock 2 inch paddle track on before I sent the clutches out and all top end was gone.

Thanks

Mark the primary and secondary clutch with a black marker up the sheaves from top to bottom. Run sled and observe the marker lines to determine if clutches are fully shifting out or which one is not. Is the belt also the right one assuming it is.

Yea same belt as when I was seeing 80- 85 with just pipe. When we took the clutches off the gt we also used the gts belt. We tried the lines on my clutches and it seemed they were shifting out there was only about .25 of an inch of the black line left on the top of the primary

We tried my primary with the gts secondary first thinking it was something with the stage two clutch kits helix. After that didn't help we put the primary off the gt on too and still nothing. After having the gts clutches on I assumed it was a problem in the clutches but do the gts have a different clutch set up? Also tried the power commander unplugged with these clutch but that didn't help. That would only leave the air box mod left but those are only 6 bullet style filters in a v in the nose. I'm stumped

Does it feel slow?Wondering if its just not reading speed correctly? All the drive bearings are good?Track can be turned over easy by hand?Creeps a little when in air?

I believe the speedo is correct it does seen slow. When we line the two up they were about even to 40 45 then the gt we just start pulling and once I hit that 60 mark it was pulling away pretty fast. Could see about 85 in the same field with the gt. I just went out and propped the back up and it took pretty good effort to turn the track.

Phazer mtx's have a 17 tooth gear, as to where the gt has a 19 I believe. There's your problem. Phazer mtx's are just that, mountain sleds and as such are geared differently then a GT.

I know a phazer gt is geared higher and will have more top end. Doesn't explain why my sled went 80 with just a pipe now won't go a hair over 62.

Mis read sorry. I guess starting from first part and installing and riding would work but takes so much time. As it would be necessary for each part. I hope you find a fix. Here's a number if you ever need help with power commander, it's ulmer racing, 605-387-2833.

You mentioned 9 tooth drivers. What size were the stock ones? That'll change your gearing. Snow conditions are kind of a big deal too, seen my nytro mtx down to 80km an hour in heavy wet stuff.

The stock drivers were 8 tooth. Correct me if I'm wrong but switching to a 9 tooth is equivalent to gearing up a tooth= more top end. I originally had the top end loss before switching the drivers. Thinking it was in the clutches, I put the new drivers and track on while they were sent out. All input appreciated. Thanks

Take the airbox lid off and look into throttlebodies with a flashlight.Open throttle. Are they open all the way?If so go run it with the lid off.Maybe something is blocking the intake. This will eliminate that.Your track also should creep at idle or just require a finger to get it to creep.Should not be tight.

8 tooth to 9 tooth drivers is equal to increasing your top gear 2 teeth. example if you have a 17/41 gearing the gear ratio will be 2.41. With the 9 tooth driver change you will now have an equivalent 19/41 gearing with a gear ratio of 2.16 which is higher and more top end maybe. So a 2.41 gear ratio is lower even though the number is higher, the 2.16 gear ratio is higher even though the number is lower.

Higher gear ratio does not always mean you will see more top end mph especially if you have a paddle track. I have a MTX with 1.75" X 144" Back Country and found the same 75 mph top end with 17/41 or 19/41 gearing. But the 17/41 gearing allows clutching to run more efficient and less friction. The throttle response and shift out are night and day different and much more snappy.
