2018 Yamaha Sidewinder BTX LE 50TH
Ok the rumours are saying that Yamaha are bring new sleds to the showrooms for 2014. So I been thinking, Yamaha are behind the competition in both snowmobiling and the ATV markets according to the magazines. I would be very surprised if Yamaha are going to change both there sleds and ATV's for 2014.

I have both a 2011 Apex SE and a 2007 Venture Lite and love both of them but the apex has been around since 2006 and the venture lite is behind the rest of the touring sleds. Now if you look into the ATV's you got the rhino that has never been update to any significant amount and the same as the grizzly. Just go onto youtube and watch the episodes of dirtrax and those guys are saying the same thing.

Now I hope that Yamaha do change there lineup but be to able to do so one of the line ups will have to suffer again next year.

What are some of your guys opinion on this matter?

I heard sled wise just gonna be maybe a Phazer update and/or a mutual entry sled with Cat like the 120 to keep the price down. I was told don't look for anything real big as far as the Apex. Was told to many are very happy with the way it is already.... Just what I heard

Whatever happened in japan after the earthquakes and nuke meltdowns? It kind of vanished from the news, but I would assume that would throw a wrench into things when the whole country was blasted. Even if the yamaha factories weren't hit - suppliers from around the country surely would have been. People dying, familys/towns/cities wiped out.. And all we hear is people bitching about our toys.

The company that I work for was developing components for an extended version of the Rhino about 4 or 5 years ago but that got canned and we were never really told why. Then there was a class action law suit filed due to roll-over injuries and I wondered if that was the reason development stopped. I was told at the corporate booth that back then Yamaha was leading the market and that's why they were targeted by all the litigation- not because they were any more or less dangerous than the others. Not sure what ever happened to that.

Case was dismissed.

Good to know, thanks Irv. I'm glad they were able to defend their product although it probably cost a fortune in legal fees.

This is the seventh production year for the current model Venture Lite and it is basically the same except for a few updates early on. I'm not into trading my sled every 2-3 years for a new model, however, seven years is a bit long for any model to stay in the game. As for the VL being behind the other touring sleds; I consider it more of a utility/touring sled at a decent price but a few updates like a bit more power would be good by now.

The Apex is fine what other big 4 stroke out there will run with it ? nothing but the Turbo Cat.

vector is fine as well

What they are desperately missing is a smaller lighter cheaper sit down style trail sled. Something like a Ski Doo ACE or the new 600 Indy. A phazer motor in a comfortable, predictable chassis for 8k or less. The Phazer is not a sales success because it fits a far too narrow segment of the market. most people want a real seat with some attempt at wind protection.

No offence to anyone who owns one, but I think the majority don't care for the looks of them either?

Yamaha seems to run with things that sell good for them, ATV/snowmobiles are nothing to what they sell alot of BIKES. For yamaha to put money into a very small part of there company every two years is a bad business for them. If they are selling what they make good for them. Look how long they sold the Vmaxx/SRX/SX 1997-2002. They are not like Cat,Skidoo that need new sleds every few years to keep there sales high.

Thats 5 years, we are there or longer on almost every sled in the line... I think the current line of sleds are great products as they were 5+ years ago, but we need something new!
