Yesterday I had the sled out all morning - over 100 kms with no ice build up on the heat exhanger. We did another 80 kms on groomed trails and I had to stop every 10 minutes to clear the slush from the heat exchanger.

I did get the overheating light once and the slush was just packed between the track and the heat exchanger. From then on I just stopped often to clear it out. I ordered the rad fan for my GT from the dealer but he told me the only way to prevent the slush from building up is to upgrade to a 1.5" track.

Does anyone have any other tips? I did a search but found nothing. I do have the rear tunnel closed. This summer I'm going to install a water temp guage so I can keep an eye on it before it overheats.

I was riding with 3 buddies riding Ski Doo's and did they ever rib me and my 4 stroke!

Check my avatar. Same thing happened to me many times the first year with the stock track. Changed to the FreeRide track the second year and have never had to put her on it's side ever again to clear the ice. Only thing I could find to fix that issue.

never noticed a problem with mine. (tunnel closed off) were you riding slow behind the doo's? maybe ride over some fresh snow when you get the chance or hit some bumps to get that build-up knocked out of there.
the fan does help. i saw my temp light only when sitting after a few minutes, pre-fan. now with fan on, haven't seen the light.

I had this same issue about a month ago... it drove me CRAZY! At one point, I had to stop about every 20 miles to clear out the heat exchanger. This is the first time I've experienced this problem so I'm not too concerned. It seems like it only happens when it is really cold out and riding smooth trails that kept the accumulation from getting knocked loose. BTW, I only have the rear tunnel hole closed.

It amazing on these phazers how much ice and snow it can hold. I have the tunnel closed and fan. no overheat light. It did before the fan. I get a lot of snow built up in the front end. right behind the bumper(yamaha glide plate) and where the tie rods come through. I heat up the garage after every ride for a good ice melt.

Cubby were you up in lac du bonnet

Yes I was. We did the run up to Anson's Hut, back to LDB for lunch and then to Pinawa and back.
then i think i saw you going towards alfs hut on monday. I was with my phazer a apex and a 06 nytro on the lake not far from the swampish trail start

Could be. I also saw a blue phazer in Casey's parking lot. Was that you?

Yesterday we did over 250 kms in the Whiteshell - Falcon Lake to Seven Sisters. It clogged up a couple of times but never overheated. I would stop and check it every 20 kms or so. If it was clear I just kept going. If it had slush I cleaned it out.
