Talked to dealer again last week and he promised to research it again and call in about it. Dealer just called me today and told me a fan is on order for me and Yamaha is picking up the tab!

Overheating
Have two mountain lites - both overheat in hard snow conditions despite fan. No problem in powder or soft snow.
Have to wonder why they have the fan pulling air out of the engine compartment instead of sucking in colder air to displace heat in the engine compartment? As installed, the fan pulls hot air from the engine compartment across the oil cooler in opposition to the preferred flow of incoming cold air. Would be much better to have coldest air pulled across the rad after which can displace hot air in the compartment after it has cooled the oil.

I just talked to Yamaha about the fans and the rear suspension problems. They said that they are not aware of any problems. They also didn't know how some people are getting FREE fans.
The only bulletin was a ball joint retork and a alltitude check.
So people that got FREE fans just got lucky I guess.

This is one area that Yamaha loses my future business. The problem has been documented by many here, as well as calling into their "engineering" customer service. I complained the first time I saw the temperature light in favorable conditions, second...third...fourth and spent hours on the phone talking with Yamaha. It's a matter of documenting the problem from the start with your dealer and calling Yamaha.
I got the "fix" @ the end of the season, have not had a chance to test yet on the snow. Also, Yamaha put on a the side panels @ no charge replaced the inner and outer guide wheels. I will "document" any problem I have and let the dealership/Yamaha of my displeasure.
Someone mentioned a Yamaha dealership/tech meeting in another thread, thinking it was the end of September...beginning of October. Should have some fixes for these little issues. It's fustrating, the platform is solid...just needs some tweaks that Yamaha has their head up their arze on addressing.

I talked to one magazine guy that everyone on this site would know his name. Plus another magazine (snowgoer) mentioned in last months review of the 07 Phazer they experienced overheating. Now both of these sourses said in their case it was as easy as kicking the snow/ice dam off the front heat exchanger to cure the problem.
I never had a problem with My Mtn Lite. But My dealer told Me he had a couple of guys with short tracks complaining about overheating. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Yamaha will address it this fall. Discounted fans maybe. JMO. But if your experienceing this Ice dam scenario some home work has to be done to figure out how & where its starting. Are guys with 1.5" freeride tracks experiencing the same ice dam? A fan isn't going to get rid of the snow blocking the front exchanger.
In Yamaha's Defense I can say that most snow conditions in Michigan were absolutely terrible and I felt like I had to pay extra attention and make sure I was hitting the sides of the trail for fresh snow most days.

last year i had an overheating problem, i flushed a gallon of antifreeze out and put in distilled water & water wetter, made sure the system was bled and haven't had a problem since, i start it every month during the off season, let it run for 15-20 min. in temp in the 90's over the summer and it hasn't overheated once
Water wetter doesnt prevent freezing though right?

They are feeding you a line of bull. If there was no issues with these things than why do the '08's come with the side panels and fans standard.
