I see a lot of you guys do an outstanding job polishing your tunnels. How is this achieved so nicely? I've used aluminum polish and a Mothers powerball but still don't get results anywhere near as nice as what I have seen. Any suggestions? I find it most difficult in the areas where there are sharp edges.

Sand with 1000 then 1500 and follow with 2000 grit. Now you ready to polish. Do a search on this!

Wet sand like bottlerocket said- if you are REALLY ambitious they have polishing kits with polishing rogue included- this is the only way to get truly perfect IMO.

I did 600, 1000, 1500, and 2000 and just polshed with mothers once and neverdull a second time. Turned out much better than it did when I only polished it.

Take your time and be patient when sanding- doing a good job sanding gets you the best results- I got annoyed and rushed one side and it looks noticeably worse.

I got all of my paper and polish at O Reilly autoparts- just make sure you get wetordry sand paper. I also used the mothers powercone- saves a lot of time but I can't quite get it to look as good as I did by hand. Maybe someone can chime in on how to get the best results from the powerball tools..

Good Luck and Have Fun

the way Bottlerocket said...plus lots of elbow grease and a few cold beers!

I see 06 beat me LOL...

A mothers powerball is for shining up something that is already shiny but just has some grime on it. Its not for removing oxidation and polishing. If you want to do your tunnel and be sane after. You need a variable grinder/polisher and a tripoli bar and white polish bar and some 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper.

California custom three step process rocks! I never believed it till I tried it. You will need two small bottles of oxide remover and one purple polish. Another member recommended it and he was right. Bought it of ebay fyi

Sheetwright, do you have any pictures of your tunnel after using that stuff? It sounds like it would be much easier and faster then sanding the tunnel and then polishing it. I did find the stuff on ebay, and it's not that expensive either.

The use of liquid compounds will only clean out the scratches and cracks and make them shiny.

Using a buffing/polishing compound and sand paper will cut the metal down to the smoothest possible finish creating the best shine possible.

X2 I think that was me, It works awesome with very little elbow grease too. I used it on my quad axle dump all the time :bling

Get rid of the "powerball" too...only one way to do it and that's by hand! The powerball only works the very first time you use it...after that you're going backwards.

LOL just making sure people are aware what is real and what is temporary.

Here is where I originally got the idea to use it... and my link also. He did a nicer job then me, but it does a good job.

I agree, I was pretty disappointed in the performance of the power ball.
