Honk,
I know not everyone has the same problems with the same products, but I have talked with enough prople who had problems with those tracks to know it was definately a track problem, and not just a rider problem or difference of opinion. My sled has always been ridden in good snow conditions, no bony stuff, no spinning while crossing roads, no rocks/gravel, etc. Hell, I hardly ever ran it on ice...all the lakes I hit were snow covered. It wasn't even studded. I had the most problems on groomed trails, especially if they were freshly groomed. It felt like the sled had marbles or BBs under the track. It spun when using throttle, slid sideways in the corners, wouldn't brake well, etc. It had knobs starting to pull out after my first real ride (around 500 miles, a few weeks after buying it). The only place it worked well were very hard packed groomed trails. Forget hitting any powder! With the Cat track (nothing special, but a major improvement) trails are awesome, and powder is now fun to ride in!
I'm attaching a pic of what my track look like when I removed it. The white-looking areas are where knobs broke off. You can also see several places where the rubber is gone right down to the reinforcements.

Wow. I would say that looks pretty defective to me. Either that, or someone took a grinder to it.

As far as conditions go...I ride in good enough conditions that when I pulled that track off, the ORIGINAL hyfax were still in fair shape. Could have used replacing, but they were not down to metal anywhere. Its bad when the hyfax outlast the track.

nhrxrider said:George, you got that right. Like the "upgrade" sway bar links, sway bar, Warrior rear heat exchanger, Ripsaw track to replace the shredding '03 tracks, etc.
Jim
Sledheadgeorge, A upgrade part is an optional item to increase the performance or handling of a sled. The thicker sway bar and longer bar links are an upgrade. I own a 04 RX and I am not asking for Yamaha to warranty my skid because they have now developed the mono shock skid which is a better suspension...I am sure if Yamaha had an issue on their machines that caused a hazard or was unsafe, they would replace it as a warranty item.
NHRXrider, I can understand your frustration with Yamaha because of your track blowing apart but I disagree with your statement. I agree that your track should have been covered under warranty as long as it was not abuse that caused the damage, But you need to understand that by being so Negative towards Yamaha does not help your cause.

RXRider, I am amazed to see the diff between your ripped up stock track and mine. Did Yammi warrenty these track? and if yes, How do you explain mine looking perfect? after 4000 miles. Was there problems with when the tracks were built? I do wish mine would have fallen apart, I wanted a more agressive one. Yammi probally only warrented these tracks the first year I would surmize? Thanks for the info! HONK
