Hi guys. I'm getting my new sled ready to ride, so I'll share a few projects. First is power outlets. I'm adding a gps and wanted power for helmets and maybe communicators in the future, plus want to be able to charge the phone. So I wanted to add some USB outlets and some RCA outlets.

I got a triple tap to connect to the existing harness. If you don't know, it is in the footwell on the right side. The plug has a cap on it. At the Cat dealer you can get extensions and adapters. I picked the three tap adapter and an RCA extension. I got a two tap USB outlet on Amazon.

Here is a pic showing how I ran the wires. I used some plastic clips to hold the wires. They add a little thickness so the wires don't chafe. This is a pic of the side of the tank from the right running board to the dash area.

There is plenty of space on the dash, and room behind for the pieces. Just be careful to be sure you found a spot with enough room behind. I removed all the panels to make it easier and ran the wires along the side of the tank. The sled is black, so it's hard to see in the pics, but here you go.

From here I can run a cord under the dash and pull it out right by the GPS. And I can plug the helmets one handed. The outlets all have covers so they don't get packed with snow. They are out of the way and almost look like they are from the factory.

The tripple tap you used, did you get that at the dealer? Also what kind of gps unit are you going to use? Do you have a location and mounting hardware picked out?

I did get it at the dealer. My dealer sells both yamaha and cat. It is in the cat parts book in the electrical section. The book has a picture of the double one and a listing for the triple.

I just got a garmin 52LM for under $100. I used a Ram mount on the dash next to the gauges. The GPSMAP uses a mini USB for power. I'll take a pic later and upload here.

Does that power port energize with the key like the lighter socket or does it wait like the headlights until the engine is running?

It all comes on with the key, not waiting for the engine to run. For constant power you can run it to the battery.
